Tapered leg jeans: how do we feel?
Permalink Closed

So I'm guessing the '80s really are back, because tapered leg jeans are being revived all over the December issue of my Lucky.  (Which is interesting, because in their "shopping manual," the editors expressly disapprove of the style as "exaggerating the difference between the upper and lower leg, making thighs look bigger.")  What do you ladies think of this trend?  Short lived or back for good?

I wear mine all the time, they're awesome-fun! I have noticed, however, that with some tops they make me look like A. an apple on toothpicks. or B. A cheesecake-novel pirate.

I HATE tapered jeans.

Personally, I think tapered, skinny jeans only look really good on tall, thin, types (which I am not! :

God knows I had a hard enough time not buying any more boot cut jeans! I think it'll probably be a short lived trend, but to the ladies who don't have to worry about their thighs looking bigger- rock on!

I'd like to see the bell bottom come back!

I think tapered leg is a no-no, but most of what they are showing right now is more of a skinny straight leg jean which I think can look very cute on the right person.

I don't like the tapered leg jean, but that's because I'm short and I think they make me look too hippy.  That, and they cause high school flashbacks.

I'm with theotherjess, tapered legs in all its forms are evil, but skinny straight legs lookg reat on people who are...well...lucky enough to be skinny and straight.

I'm not really a fan of this style at all.  I just don't think that they are flattering on 95% of the population.  I think you have to be a true "ruler" body type to really wear these pants and wear them well.  Even if you are a really thin, but still have curves, I don't think these would work very well.

i think they look awesome on kate moss types.  i don't think you  have to be a ruler, but i do think you have to have a nice shape.  I saw some tapered jeans on a S.A. at a boutique and she was very curvy- maybe a curvy size 10 and also pretty tall, and they looked AWESOME on her.  She just pulled them off so well.  If I found a pair of really skinny jeans that looked good on me, i'd do it.  You would just have to try them on to make sure that they are flattering and maybe not super tapered.  I like ones that bunch up near the ankles like these:

yeah, and i think the key is pairing them with a drapey, longer top like the one in that pic.  otherwise, there's just too much butt showing in the back and it looks kind of weird (imho).

That pic is a cute look, but it's definitely not something everyone could (or should) try to pull off.  I think if you have the type of body that works for them, then go for it.  You'll never see me wearing them though!

It looks too bad on too many people. I dont' think it will stay around - maybe in some modified form, but I dont' know... ballet flats are comfortable and pretty, so not goign away. Pink is flattering, so it's finaly dying but how long was it around? But those one-shouldered tops? And the shredded skirts? Weird looks. Gone. I think a trend has to be flattering to stay long...

I agree, in most cases. We wore tapered leg pants in HS and early college years, and I don't think it's that flattering a trend now. BUT in HS I had more of a figure for it, and part of my reason for not doing it now is that I participated in that trend the first time around, and I believe in the adage that "if you wore it the first time it came around, you shouldn't wear it the second time". *s*

I'm annoyed with Lucky lately - they always seem to be contradicting themselves. I have the shopping manuall and they were quite clear that tapered leg pants / jeans were not a flattering style...now, of course, that it's a trend, they are on the bandwagon. It would be nice if they'd stick to one opinion, and not fall on this because it's the "in" thing to do now. Bah.

short lived, but there is a definite difference between the 80's jeans and these.  80's jeans were rarely low waisted and at least on a skinny girl with long legs...

I don't care for the tapered jeans, but I do kind of like the skinny jeans tucked in boots look.
