And I love you.

Just kidding (sort of!) but I missed you and I'm so glad that you're back!! Acutally I saw you made a thread but I was in France at the time and totally forgot to PM/email you when I got home. Please don't leave again.

Anyway even though I dislike Tara Subkoff I like some of her designs although they are so ridiculously overpriced. What's the point of having a hot designer do something for a low-end brand if they price it at 3x the cost of the rest of the brand?!

ok i totally agree- i really don't understand the Easy Spirit connection- is this brand trying to become "cool"?  I looked in the store a few months ago and i didn't like anything still.  Also, not to hijack, but why does everyone hate tara subkoff?  I've heard it on SO many fashion boards (as well as maybe Dot and Honey disliking her?  don't remember).  Just want to know why she is so passionately hated because i'm nosy

cc, I TOTALLY agree. As soon as I saw them I thought omg a cheap Tara Subkoff line and they look awesome - eeeee! etc...and then I looked at the price. $500 is cheap for boots? No it isn't. I also love this pair of Paul and Joe boots (also from Shopbop but they are damn near $900 - wtf?) - posting them in gold because it's easier to see detail but I'd get 'em in a more wearable colour. Because I'm all about the 'wearable'. Haha.

Thanks for the welcome back, I love you too (but in a totally socially acceptable way).

i fantasize about the tall version of those boot, and winning the lottery so i can actually afford them.

lynnie -- my dislike of her (it's not really dislike, more like i don't care for her) stems from the fact that she kind of has this whole  "too cool for school" pretentious vibe that i don't care for and find kind of ridiculous.

cc & mia -- the love fest is cracking me up

i had to look up pics of her- never even heard of her outside of fashion and never read anything on her!  have you seen her in nyc or read stuff on her?  she seems like she would be pretentious, but i've never seen anything about her, so maybe she's not as cool as she thinks

I own those boots! It takes a lot for me to admit it.... what makes it easy is the boots are GORGEOUS! That picture serves no justice. I also got them with a discount... but what makes it hard is that I am a serious Tara-hater. It took my friend some SERIOUS talking-in-to for me to get those boots.

When I worked in galleries, she was around all the time. She had made a movie with one of the artists we worked with at one of the galleries I worked in.. so she was always on my radar. I just feel like she's whatevz and not that talented (as a designer). At that time, it was kinda a high-point for IoC (Imiation of Christ)... so there was all this hype around her, and after seeing her around so much and seeing her clothes, it just drove me bananas. Like the emperor's new clothes. Can't you all see she's just a failed actress, annoying hipster! Sorry for being so catty!

So I think you look back.. I posted this or did I not? this article about Tara Subkoff at New Yorker Festival Panel. Maybe I'll search for that article again...

Here is that Tara Subkoff blurbie from WWD
Permalink Closed

FICKLE FASHION: If Tara Subkoff is so bitter about the fashion industry, why is she still working in it? That's what audience members were wondering at The New Yorker Festival's "Generation X Fashion" panel on Saturday, when Subkoff took swipes at nearly every aspect of the fashion business, including her fellow panelists, the designers Behnaz Sarafpour and Alice Roi. The first words out of her mouth were to correct the panel's moderator, Judith Thurman, a staff writer for The New Yorker, for her pronunciation of Subkoff's surname. The Imitation of Christ designer went on to chide:

* "American Vogue dominates. It's politics. [Success depends] on how much you advertise in publications."
* "[Vogue editor in chief] Anna Wintour only supports young, gay men." In response, Thurman said to Sarafpour, "[Wintour] supported you, didn't she?" Sarafpour: "Yes." Subkoff: "Maybe Behnaz's approach is more masculine."
* After an audience member asked if the designers would advise their own children to go into the fashion industry, Subkoff said: "I'm not having children. Ever."
* When a model walked out wearing one of Subkoff's creations, a red suede minidress with a hood, Thurman asked her why she chose to show that look for the panel. Subkoff: "I didn't choose this. I think someone from my press office did. This is one of the reasons I fired my press person." Subkoff then said of the outfit: "I think it's really good for a modern-day Muslim." Sarafpour, who emigrated from Iran to the U.S. with her family as a child, didn't respond.
* Subkoff also said she wouldn't have chosen to show that look because it was too racy for the size 16-plus average American woman. The zaftig Roi, who sells plus-size clothes on the home shopping channel QVC, then quipped, "I think this could work in a 22."
* Subkoff said of her early training, "In the Nineties, I was a ragpicker for Isaac Mizrahi ... Donna Karan." Thurman: "What's a ragpicker?" Subkoff: "A ragpicker basically designs their collections by going and finding vintage pieces and sending them to the patternmakers so they end up on the runway with nothing changed." Sarafpour: "I don't employ any ragpickers." Subkoff: "Behnaz, out of all the designs here today, yours is definitely the most retro. It's Fifties Audrey Hepburn." (Sarafpour had shown a cocktail dress made from cotton canvas printed with a lace pattern.)
* Subkoff to Thurman: "Women are very unsupportive of each other in the fashion world ... This is a gay man's profession. It's very bizarre of you to choose three women [for a fashion panel]. There should be a few proper gay men. Where are all the queens?"

So does that mean Subkoff would've been more polite had she been sitting next to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez?

Ummmm, kind of confused about the style of these boots.  They have some just like that without the "cut off pants bottoms" on them at like JCPennys.  Can't you just wear those and some matching pants and get the same look???  Cause really if you scroll to wher you can't see the top of the boot, they just look like cute boots with matching fabric pants over them.  Seems like so much to pay for boots with a little bit of pants attached to them.

Mia there is a shopbop code. MISSYA15! for 15% off! But also keep checking the Easy Spirit site.

Honestly, I am a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE Tara-Hater (if you couldn't tell by my posts above). I even posted a thread in early summer about how ridiculously overpriced and stupid the shoes were... and yet I still bought them. These boots are just that awesome.

They look so cute with tights and with skinny pants/jeans tucked in or even with pants over them they look very polished. I wear my pants over them at work and then tuck them in when I go out.

My only complaint is they take some getting used to because you feel like your foot is sliding out of them. They have a very big, wide opening on the top, so that your leg is somewhat swimming in the openness of the boots. Mine have raunched, scrunched a little so I really like a baggy look and then legs coming out of them. I wish I had skinner legs to make this effect more dramatic!

Maybe I will try and take a picture of me in them this weekend... so you can see!

dot - yes, please post your pics, I'd love to see them on...and thanks for the code!

As for looking like pants over boots, I would probably wear them with skirts. Damn, they would great with a denim mini and kniw tights.

::dies a little::
