not for him, but if you are comfortable, maybe first shave it all off then let grow for about four days...although this can be itchy for a day or two.  Then just maintain a nice strip down the middle, kept very clean along the sides.  I have actually heard guys talk about this often and most guys are fine with hair, but they like it when it is kept very trim.
