i know this much is true

Oh and one of my fav books and I have it is called A child called it by Dave Pelzer. Oh my gosh it is good from the first sentance to last . Very emotional and heartbreaking but you will want to read it .The book after that is called The lost boy .
I really liked The Mermaid Chair, the new book from Sue Monk Kidd, who wrote Secret Life of Bees. Other than that, I have been reading books for my english class :(
thanks ladies iam going to today and check some of these out- i will let you know what i get- oh but still give some more book ideas when I get in a reading mood I cant stop
ditto this. I'd look up "Oprah's Book Club" and then read the synopses on Amazon and go from there. As much as I hate the idea of Oprah's Book Club, she had some really great titles on there!
I Know This Much Is True was an awesome book, by the way! I loved it, and I don't like Wally Lamb normally.

Hi All, Just returning to the forum after a bit of a lengthy absence (work has been killing me!), but saw this thread and thought I might get some good suggestions. Has anyone read any good thrillers lately? I just finished the Traveler - which is billed as the next best thing to the DaVinci code. It was good, but not anything like the DaVinci Code. I have tried some other Dan Brown books (Digital Fortress, etc.) and can't seem to find anything as enthralling as the D-Code.... What do you all think? What's good?

Some books that reminded me of Davinci Code, but were a little "smarter" IMO:
The Rule of Four (Ian Caldwell)
The Dante Club (Matthew Pearl)
The Secret History (Donna Tartt)

I just read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, and it's essentially the same as the DaVinci Code. Different city and different people, but essentially the same book, with religion, art, history, and science all throughout. They are definitely page-turners, but I find that the dialogue and romance that the author throws in just makes the books less satisfying than they could be.
Also, FWIW, One Hundred Years of Solitude (by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, my favorite author ever) is a great book, but it's not an easy read. (I don't mean to suggest that anyone here can't handle it, but it may not be what you're in the mood for.)
I just finished Whores on the Hill by Colleen Curran, and I really liked it. At first, it was a bit slow, but after that it sped up. I don't know if it's for everyone, but I liked it. Maybe I identified because it took place in Wisconsin? *Just a warning, the reviews of this on Barnes and Noble are pretty bad. I would recommend checking it out from the library. I bought a used copy for $5 and was satisfied, but again, it's not the kind of novel that would appeal to everyone.
I'm also reading The Dogs of Babel right now by Carolyn Parkhurst, and I love it. I was a bit sceptical of the plot at first, but it's actually very good.
thanks everyone i went and got the book Rebecca , i also had to get the book The Secret Life of Bees sent to my libary it shold be here soon- thanks ladies for all your suggestions
