i got a sample of sephora's  "the great pumpkin mask"


i thought "mmm this will be nice"


says to leave on 10-12 mins for sensitive skin 15 for regular skin.


i have regular skin


at 5 minutes i notice slight burning around my chin/mouth area


rinse off quickly


apply kiehls lotion


still BURNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  hurts like a mo fo and now i am afraid my skin is going to be bright red tomorrow.....


help?  anything to alleviate????  why did the pumpkin mask do this?????

That sucks.  It sounds like an allergic reaction.  Try taking an antihistamine pill and put some antihistamine cream on your fce (I know, sounds gross).  Good luck!

I tried that same evil mask sample once last year...I have the world's toughest oliy skin and at 15 minutes I was biting my tongue and wondering whether the mask was supposed to be invigorating or whether the people at Sephora were being sadistic and trying to see what women would do to have great skin. I think there's some cinnamon in there or something like that causing the burning.


I don't know what to do about it though, other than what jacL suggested. Good luck!

I had the same reaction to that sample!  Evil!  It eventually went away & was completely fine by the next day.  Man, did that burn though.

thanks guys!  it did finally stop... but i def. felt the effects of it the next day.


i have to go up to the mall where our sephora store is tomorrow for work, so i am going to ask them why it burns like that since everyone gets that reaction...


i'll post again when i find out.

I asked the Sephora staffers what was up with the "Great Pumpkin Mask" and why so many of us had a bad reaction to it.


Turns out that it is a very strong enzyme mask.  The skin specialist there recommended a patch test to determine if it was too strong.  I told her she should have the staffers tell that to customers when they give it to them as a sample because I have normal skin that my esthetician uses enzyme masks on frequently and i have never had a reaction like the "great pumpkin mask" gave me.  I also suggested that Sephora look into putting a warning label on it.  They agreed and said they would bring it up in their next staff meeting.  (yeah right... i seriously doubt they will... but whatever...)


anyway, that is the scoop.
