I must be channeling my inner 17-year-old these days because I am obsessed with The Format -- all of their songs, but especially "Janet." Oh, and Lord help me, but I love Kanye West, especially his song "Two Words" with Mos Def.

I also like Sigur Rós, Staralfur is my favourite song, but when I first got into them it was all about the Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása. (my friend is in the video! ) Apart from that I like Elliot Smith's "Miss Misery" The Freemasons' "Love On My Mind" and Max Graham vs. Yes "Owner of a Lonely Heart"

Maddie I love Mirah. I mainly just listen to Advisory Committee all the time but my boyfriend and I listened to You Think It's Like This But Really It's Like This a lot when I was visiting him the other week so now it has sentimental value and will probably make me weepy and depressed when I listen to it now!
I love "The City" by the Dismemberment Plan. It has so much yearning in it, you know?
Some albums I've been loving lately: the new David Gray, Franz Ferdinand, and Death Cab CDs. Rufus Wainwright "Poses"
Songs: I've Got You Under My Skin -- Frank Sinatra Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters -- Elton John Hayling -- FC Kahuna Only You -- Yaz (if you've seen "Can't Hardly Wait," this is the song that plays at the end when Ethan Embry kisses Jennifer Love Hewitt) Since U Been Gone -- Kelly Clarkson Got to Give It Up -- Marvin Gaye California Stars -- Wilco
I've been listening to a very random selection of music lately.
Hysteria - Muse, Forever Young - Youth Group, Lullaby - Bond, Sunshowers - M.I.A., Always Love - Nada Surf, Seasons of Love from the upcoming Rent movie soundtrack, Follow Through - Gavin DeGraw, Fortunate Son - CCR, The Book of Love - Peter Gabriel, California - Atherton, One Word - Kelly Osbourne.
and I've also busted out the Christmas music.

Right now I'm listening to Jack Johnson's album "In Between Dreams" and I love it. My favorite track is "Better Together." I also second (or third) the David Gray album that the other girls suggested. I him.
Dar Williams. i'm listening to a lot of mellow high school/college music. after visiting my college friends, i'm nostalgic for my school days. i am having crazy feelings lately because i saw my ex recently and he's trying to mind fuck me again and having my bf gone has made it harder to not think about him (not that i miss him, but it's easier to let my mind wander...i hate boys sometimes) so i'm listening to a lot of chick music lately...
As Cool As I Am: Dar Williams (reminds me of my high school/college days)
If I Wrote You: Dar Williams
Beauty of the Rain: Dar Williams w/ Chris Botti (newer song...nice though)
Independence day/4th of July: Ani Difranco (h.s. days)
A Sorta Fairytale: Fiona Apple (need to check out her new cd)
Till Your Dead: Melissa Ferrick
These Days: Nico
Anytime: Brian McKnight (random, oh so random)
James: Huffamoose
Wait: Huffamoose
I Want to Buy You a Ring: Huffamoose
Song For a Winter's Night: Sarah McLachlan (i found this song on a xmas mix and i really like it. i imagine sitting by the fire with the snow outside, drinking captin morgan and apple cider)
Dance Me Till the End of Love: Madeleine Peyroux (i heard this song on NipTuck and i was by my laptop so i typed the words in a search and found it. it's jazzy)

Oooh, I love The Decemberists! The lyrics are like short stories.

Love this thread! Here is my contrib: Song for No One - Ian Broudie Blue Light - Bloc Party In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Matt Pond PA The Earthquake of '73 - The Fruit Bats Hounds of Love - The Futureheads Pull the Curtains - Grandaddy Red Right Ankle - The Decemberists Twin Cinema - The New Pornographers
ooh, i'm loving "twin cinema" too! great list, killa!
This thread is a keep and save. I checked out some of the music I hadn't heard of and I was thinking....this is neat, it's something I would have played over and over before I got married, it's so weird how (for me anyway) that lifestyle (angst, love, pain) can affect what kind of music I listened to. For example, I love Fiona Apple and have since 1997, but if I hadn't been exposed to her during a time when her music really related to my life, I might have just "liked" her stuff, but not clung to it. I do love her new album (and Oh Sailor) as a result, but it doesn't move my emotion like it used to.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for sharing, I am hardly exposed to cool new music anymore because A. they don't seem to play it on the local radio or even on Mtv enough and B. I usually listen to NPR anyway. I don't know whatever happened to a pal who worked for Virgin records who used to send me unreleased CD's back in the late nineties....I need to look him up again.
Some of my favorite new songs are the ones from Keane (introduced last year I think) on the Hopes and Fears album. I like Somewhere Only We Know, This is the Last Time, and especially Everybody's Changing!
There is a version of the Beach Boys, God Only Knows, by Joss Stone that was on the Free Gap CD, it's really good, of course, the original is greatness too. For a free cd, this one was a goodie.
So I am going to start a new thread, where do you find your new music?

honey, I love that song too. I wasn't that into Juicebox when that leaked, but You Only Live Once is so much better (although Juicebox has grown on me).

i hadn't been paying much attention to the strokes leaks b/c i knew i would end up buying the album anyway, but i heard you only live once on the radio and it was so catchy. i'm going to go download the juicebox video -- though i'm totally going to get yelled at by our office tech person. oh well :)
