Some background: The office I work at started out as a company called ProMap, in Iowa. It was started by my dad and another guy; started back in early 90's. Fast forward to this year: Another company called The Schneider Corporation (no, not the trucking company) is based in Indianapolis; It's their corporate headquarters. They have had a relationship with ProMap in the past, and this year, bought ProMap. It's a GIS company.
Since my dad works there as well, sometimes I get to hear otherwise non-company-wide information. A week or so ago, my dad told me that Schneider wanted to scale down the GIS department at ProMap, some of that meaning that they might shift people from here out to the Indianapolis office. I didn't think anything about it then.
Tonight, my dad told me that they are thinking that they want to move the WHOLE GIS department from ProMap out to Indy, not just a few people. This includes me, since that's the department I'm in.
If this happens, I will be moving within the next year and I have no problem with it. I think I'm in shock that an opportunity (an easy one at that) has come along to get me out the pit known as Iowa (It's a good place, but I've never wanted to be here, even though I was born here and am still here).
Wow. I've never moved anywhere but across town. Unless you count my going off to work at Cedar Point for 2 months on on my own, with no friends or anything. This would be a permanent move though, not just a temporary thing. My new home would be in Indy.
wow! big move... my company is based in indy too. i was just there this past week for work... i cover both ohio and indiana with my job.
PM me if you it does go through and you end up moving out there. i am not local- but i do know the areas to live in, that are hot, etc. plus a lot of my coworkers are local and can help as well.
i really like broad ripple! i visited my husband for three weeks when he was working in indy. (for his job he was there 6 months) it seemed like a fun city.
