What Kind of Cake?
Permalink Closed

I didn't know whether to put this question in the wedding section or the food section. So here it is.

I know some of the girls from here are married or planning to get married sometime in the future. So my question is: what kind of cake did you have or want to have for your wedding day?

My Aunt is doing our cake, and she always does a different flavor for each layer .  I defintely want a chocolate layer and a poppyseed layer.  Other than that I don't really care.

Ooh, I love talking about dessert! I'm not married yet, but I think I want a chocolate cake with a raspberry center, and with chocolate frosting. Everyone knows how much of a chocoholic I am, so no one would expect a white cake anyway!

It was whipped cream (I dont like it either), but sweeter so I was able to eat a little bit, the filling was some type of custard, that eveyone loved.  Obviously I didn't pay much attention, I just wanted my dress

Hubby wanted 3 leches cake, but it would be too unstable & tip over, plus not to mention, very expensive

Oh, this will be tough.  I have never had a cake at any kind of wedding or other formal event that I've liked and I don't like buttercream or whipped cream icing.  I kind of want to do Pillsbury Funfetti cupcakes stacked up in the shape of a wedding cake.  Yummm!

Ah, me too!  I am a cupcakeoholic.  In fact, I had two Funfetti cupcakes today!  (It was my friend's birthday)

Everyone loves cupcakes, right?  And it's got to be way cheaper.

Red velvet would be good too.   This is making me hungry.

We had a donut cake...LOL. It was sort of gauche, but neither of us really likes cake, though we love donuts! He used to bring them to me on Saturday mornings, and he gets me a big box of munchkins every year on my birthday

Anyway, the donut cake ended up being more expensive than a basic wedding cake, because very few places will do it. Apparently it has to be made the day of the wedding, and we got married on a Sunday, so that made it even harder.  We also wanted fresh flowers, so the florist had to get in on it, too. But it was very cool and we got lots of compliments:

We also had a basic chocolate cake for the folks who didn't want donuts, but this was our real "wedding" cake.

I love how you incorporated your relationship into the cake!!  Most people would have went ahead and had a real cake.  I love the Cinderella topper too.  Very cute!

IF I was actually getting married near a decent bakery, I would get a champaigne infused vanilla bean with light chocolate mousse filling and white chocolate buttercream frosting.

But I'm getting vanilla with raspberry filling and buttercream. It has cookies on it though, which makes up for it! I cookies!

hahaha, thats the BEST.  Homer Simpson would DIE if he saw that.  I love when people do offbeat things for something as traditional as a wedding.

We are huge chocolate fans and none of the cakes we tasted were chocolately enough.  So we ordered these cakes from a chocolate place we like.  Half white chocolate cakes and half milk chocolate.  Here is a picture of the cakes.  Then we bought a bunch of wooden planters from ikea turned them up and stacked them and put the cakes on top. (Hopefully this picture will work)

our cake was dark chocolate cake filled with a chololate chambourd mousse and fresh raspberries. it had buttercream icing under a thin layer of fondant (i normally *hate* fondant, but our baker's wasn't as sickly sweet as other i've tasted, so i was ok with having it). it was plated and served with a raspberry coulis.

it was my absolute favorite edible part of our wedding. :)

mckenke your cakes were amazing!

My wedding is in two weeks and this is what my cake is going to look like, but with light purple flowers:

Some layers are going to be chocolate cake and the other layers are going to be yellow cake with chocolate pudding filling. I think the icing is fondant.

Mine was a (very moist) white cake with a buttercream frosting. It was square, 3 tiers, with Iris (my flowers) in between the layers. One the edge it had frosting pearls (for lack of better description) and each layer was ribbed (again, hard to explain when you don't know the terms) lengthwise along the edges. I loved my cake. It was actually my ssecond cake. I got married in the carribean, so the one we ate ofter our vows was a rum cake of sorts with tropical flowers on top.

So perfect! I know another girl that did this & I thought this was the best thing ever!

We didn't have a cake - we eloped so we had pizza at Wolfgang Pucks! (very "us" btw)

We didn't have a cake either.  We eloped at the courthouse, then went to a bar, had a beer, and then went to Wendy's.  Our "cake" was a Frosty.

My wedding was a year ago today (yeah us) and we had a fantastic profiterole cake from Patisserie-Valerie in London. We thought about going the traditional cake route but we couldn't decide on anything we both really liked. It was a hit.
