Question about Jeans in boots
Permalink Closed

I love the look of jeans tucked into boots - but I have some concerns...

1. I'm short - 5"2' - will it make me look shorter?

2. I still have 10lbs to lose since I had the baby - and my hips are def. wider than they were before...is wearing this look going to make me look even fatter/wider since it's sort of sliming at the ankle?

3. What is the best way to get your jeans in the boots? DO I need to find some jeans with a slimmer leg?

TIA!

To answer ?#3: I use my regular jeans, but I make a single giant cuff that comes up to just below the top of the boot, (Does that make sense?) so that there isn't bulk around the ankle.

I'm the same height as you JMR, and I can't pull off this look.  But, my legs are pretty short and my thighs are longer than my calves, so the proportion looks off.  But then again I also have large calves, so I've never actually found boots in which I can fit both my legs and my jeans !  So long as the boots weren't totally skintight around your calves, I think everything would balance out.

Can you wear regular length jeans JMR?

I usually buy ankle jeans if I want to wear flats and regular for heels (but I have to sometimes shorten those)

I think you'd be fine then!  I can occasionally pull of jeans-in-boots if the boots have decent heels, wedges work even better (sounds like you're a heels girl too, right?) so I'm sure you'd look cute!  Post some pics lady !

ooh i had a question about this too..

i recently bought these at BR

and i bought them so i could tuck my jeans in, but the thing is, these suckers fit PERFECTLY around my calves, so i didnt think it would work but the salesperson said it would eventually stretch out as i wear them.. is that true? would it stretch out that much? or do i need to return these babies and look for a pair that's a bit looser?

Miks - IMO I would go with something that has a little more substance if you're planning on tucking your jeans into them, unless of course you are very tall and/or very slim and then you can wear whatever you damn well please and look hot, I'm sure

I would trade those in for something with a round toe, or a stacked or wedge heel, or something that gives the shaft a bit more volume (ruching, buckles, ties, whathaveyou) or some comination of those.  Helps to balance out the thighs a bit, and it looks like the boots you have might make your calves look much thinner than your thighs, which is never a good look.

Do you know how to post pics of yourself?

miks: I have those BR boots you pictured, and I don't think you'll stretch them enough to tuck jeans in.

Hmmm, I agree with LMonet about it depending upon if the boots have heels.  I'm 5'1 and have tried this look a few times with boots that have about an inch gap so they don't conform exactly to my calf.  i wore straight-leg jeans, and made a small fold at the calf (remember how we used to fold and roll our jeans in junior high/hs?  sort of like that) so jeans were pulled tight against and they were pretty easy to "stuff" in to the boots. obviously,it helps if your boots are zip-up.  My BFF is 5'9 and said my legs looked looong when i rocked this look (last night, as a matter of fact). here is a pic from last Fri. (w/my little one acting shy) when i dressed as Pam from Urban Cowboy. i think as long as your jeans fit well in the leg (not skin-tight, just fitted), you can pull this off. (pls post pics once/if you do bec, i'll bet you'll be really cute).  also, you can always wear a top or sweater that hits just below the hip to appear even taller/longer.

zeitgeist4: do you get a lot of wear out of those boots? they're so comfortable i dont want to return them. sooo even if i cant tuck my jeans into them i still just might keep them..

LMonet: no i havent tried posting pictures of myself... do i just upload them on photobucket or something and copy/paste? oh and i am neither tall (i'm about 5'4 close to 5'5) nor slim.. so i'm gonna have to try something else i guess?

and sorry to JMR for crowding your post with my stupid questions.

I use Shutterfly, myself .  I think photobucket works too, though.  Once it's in there just right click, copy and come here and right click, paste.

Have you tried the look with slouchy boots Miks?

i did the jeans in the boots look last weekend.  i have the slouchy miss sixty dance boots and i wore them with my dark denim 7s that i cuffed and folded over to "slim" them before pulling on my boots.  i then wore a chunky turtleneck sweater with it...

i am 5'3 (5'7 with my MS boots ) and am curvy through the thighs/butt area and i thought it looked good.  the BF did too and he usually tells me if he thinks something looks strange or off about my outfits... (but not in a bad way- in a good way - thank god for a metrosexual boyfriend!)
