Best Streets in NYC for Vendors..
Permalink Closed

i have been to NYC several times but i have never really stopped for street vendors.  the ones i remember are in soho, but that could be because i often spend a lot of time shopping there.  i have also walked down canal street several times, but sometimes i just can't handle it, and a lot of times i see so much junk before i give up.  so can you ladies offer me some help?

what are the hot places for vendors?

what are the hot items to look for?  are they still selling wood beads everywhere?

i leave on friday.

someone else should add, but I will say that in Soho I saw a vendor selling those fabric covered headbands that everyone's buying here.  I want one now, so i'm gonna go back at some point.  Not sure on the price, but they surely can't be too much.  That was either on Prince or Spring street- there are still a ton of vendors in Soho.

hahaha.  i have one of those headbands.  i bought it at bcbg w/o my discount because i thought they would sell out before i was able to use my discount ($30, but still...).  oh well, my cost per wear is going to be worth it, i just have to snag some more when i go there.

yeah, i think i kinda know some streets, i guess i'm more interested in what items they are selling.

you know- i wish i paid closer attention.  all i remember was when I was in Soho thinking, damn theres a lot of vendors here.  Hah.  So they're everywhere in the city, but I think theres a good amount here.  You could also try Chelsea-ish, there is a flea market on the weekends there (sixth ave. and 15th?)- i see vendors some on fifth avenue between around 18th street too, and in Union square too.  But Soho has a lot!  I see everything, fake-o pashminas/scarves, chunky belts like so:

sienna belt

bohemian-ish big jewelry though not necessarily wood, lots of standard silver/beaded jewelry, those headbands, i saw a vendor that had some cool artsy prints somewhere in soho, this guy in soho that takes a photo of you and then prints it on the paper in this weird way thats kind of cool..I don't know if Soho is actually the best place for vendors, but to me it is because i usually am down there only to shop!  I rarely go midtown/uptown, so can't say much about there.

if you're there on a weekend, definitely walk around in nolita. on mulberry b/t prince and houston there is a designer's fair that happens weekly in a school gym. it's less street-vendor-y and more crafts-y.

i bought nice things from nabi design there and you can usually barter with them and most take credit cards!
