you could do something inspired by kara walker's work...it would be basically like copying, but her things are really cool and interesting and have racism as a central theme.  here's a link to a google image search:

Thanks Bumblebee, I really enjoyed looking at those art pieces. I decided to actually do my 'deformed book' project on gender roles, focusing on make-up. It's a very weird class but the projects really make you think.
