conference attire kauai - help!
Permalink Closed

Hi girls ~

Help!  In all my excitement about my work trip to Kauai next week, it slipped my mind that I actually have to pack clothes for.. uh.. work.  I assume I can be quite casual, but I want to look nice, too.  I have never been to Hawaii, so I don't know what people wear.

I'll be pimping our web site at a conference, and I'll have a little booth set up outside the meeting rooms at a hotel with a computer and stuff. M job is to stand around and get people to come over and check out our site, register for a userID and PW, and answer their questions, etc.  I tend to try to be a little bit conservative, b/c our membership is older and rural, though they'll all be on vacation in this case!

I will be working for 3 days (with 4 other days and all nights free - yay!).  So what to pack for my Vanna White duties at the conference?  Remember I have a (sigh) broken toe and can't wear heels... not clue what kind of shoes/sandals to wear. If anyone sees any dresses or skirts on sale, that info is appreciated as well.  I leave Saturday.

I know that is a lot of info... TIA!

i have no idea about the temp. or dress code of conferences in kauai....... but.. i just wanted to express my envy!

so jealous!

Are the people you're going to the conference with coordinating on what to wear? Is it the type of thing where you would all want to be wearing a similar thing?

I have never been to Kauai, but in my old job I used to attend many conferences and one thing is universal the conference hall is always freezing cold.  So, at least for the work portion of your trip I would reccomend bring some cute blazers or sweaters to keep you warm.  Have fun!!

Hey Dot - I am pretty much flying solo on this.  There are other people from my company, obviously, but not my actual colleagues.  So I have no idea what people from other departments will be doing (I suspect many will do the khakis-and-logo-polo thing, but I find that to be completely objectionable and would not be caught dead.  Every logo shirt anyone gives me winds up at Goodwill). So I generally do my own thing.  Normally this region has meetings in Montana or Oregon or somewhere like that and I wear normal work clothes.  But Hawaii... no clue.  I feel like I have to look a little bit islandy.  I'll probably be given a lei (sp?) to wear.

the stuff lmonet posted is good.  my parents go on business trips to hawaii a lot--the men usually wear hawaiian shirts with their dressier khakis, and the ladies are often in tommy bahama-type shift dresses and blouses.  anything that you would feel appropriate wearing to lunch at a nice country club would be perfect--if that gives you an idea.

Great ideas - love that linen tahari dress (crisp and light but still professional)....

Thanks, girls! I think I am getting a mental picture now.
