I was stunned at Shopgirl82's mention of 9% in Chicago so I thought i'd ask. Mass has 5%, but clothing isn't taxed

NJ is 6%, but clothing isn't taxed.  I live on the border of NY and always feel guilty when I buy something there I could have bought here because they have tax!

md is 5%, everything is taxed minus necessary food items (milk, bread, etc.) NYC is 8.375% (I think), 4.375% on clothes and accessories. I have never had tax free clothes- luckies!!

7% and only necessities (ie food stuff) are not taxed. But we have the lowest tax in our country, most other province's are closer to 12-14%.

Seattle has an 8.6% sales tax and food isn't taxed. We don't have an income tax though. I have no idea what Maine's is.

Here, it varies by city.  I think the overall state is 5%, but some cities have an optional tax added on to that.  The city I'm in has total tax at 7% (2% being optional )

Most grocery items aren't taxed, only deli stuff and anything that someone has to prepare

8.25% in Los Angeles, CA. On all taxable goods...including clothes! Imagine the clothes I could've bought with that sales tax!

When I was growing up, state tax in Rockland County, NY was 7.25% (it may be 7.75% now...but I don't know)...since we're right on the NJ border, we'd go to Paramus to buy clothes since they don't have sales tax there. Good times...

What??? No way!  So you get to keep all the money you make at work?  Maybe I should reconsider my list of states where I would relocate to include Washington.

Maddie meant that we don't pay income tax to the state in WA.  We do pay federal income tax.

Ours varies by county too.  I think ours is 7 or 7.5% for clothes (and everything else but neccessary food).  It used to be 6.5% but they bumped it up.

Okay.  That is slightly less cool.
