So FH's mom works with this girl who is getting married soon - apparently she spends quite a bit of time on The Knot as opposed to working.  Somehow, she tracked us down on there and then went to FH's mom and started blabbing and asking all sorts of questions!  I don't make a habit of leaving too much personal info out there on the internet, but even after I changed my profile/webpage there so it didn't include our names AT ALL, you can still find us if you use the 'search by name' function .  I just feel really squicked out right now - like my internet-anonymity bubble has been violated.

And plus, that girl really pisses me off.  Who does that?!?

  GRRRRRR!

Anyway, just be careful - you never know who's going to find you .

Eeek - I totally understand. It's not hard to find your way to this site by googling me, which is one thing that is sort of a bummer - I didn't used to have to be so careful, but now that my actual name is out there, I can't be as candid in my posts as I used to be on the old forum. I am paranoid posting in the "dating" and "career" section b/c those people can find me!

In your case, it is rather weird that girl has fixated on you and your wedding. WTF?

Weird!!!  I had something similar happen to me.  My husband has a blog and I saw my assistant reading it one day--very weird.  My husband has links to his brother and sister's blogs on his blog and I caught my assitant looking at my brother in law's website on day too.  Super strange.  All that's on either of their blogs are pictures, recipes, and general bitching about life, so I'm not exactly sure why she'd be looking at their blogs.  She never mentioned why she was looking at it or anything that was on there, but I just felt kinda weird about it.

Eww, that is weird! I am also always paranoid when I post personal stuff (though I do it anyway), but geez! You were even trying to protect yourself and she skunked you out ... creepy.

i just think its human nature to kind of .. stalk people online.  its weird that she mentioned it- I don't usually because its embarrassing.  But i do search people I know every once in a while and read their blogs/ look at their pictures.

I agree.  I look up knot bios of people that I know are engaged, even if I'm not really friends with them.  Just curious about the proposal and wedding and whatnot.  It is kind of weird that she brought it up--did your future MIL mention it to her before or something?

Ah...now I don't feel like such a complete psycho.  I look up people online all the time although this girl did go a little far.  Does she even know you?  I mostly just look up ex-boyfriends, new guys I meet, and when I get nostalgiac, friends from high school.  I couldn't imagine looking up the son or daughter of someone I work with.  Maybe she is one of those people that is really competitive about her wedding and wanted to see if her wedding was "better" than yours or whatever.  Especially since she is on the Knot all the time.

or to go with AJ's thought- maybe she looked you up because you are interesting to her? You could potentially take that as a complement in a creepy kind of way. There are people I would never bother stalking because I don't give two sh*ts about what they've been doing- and that might be what you feel about her, so you can't understand why she'd look you up. But then there are the people that are interesting to you for some reason or another- the hs crush that just had that something, the girl that you always wished you could be friends with even though she was kind of a bitch...etc. Its like Paris Hilton- like her or not, she's one of those types that spark peoples curiousity. Heck, I will read articles on her, even though I really don't think she's that interesting, just think the "Paris Hilton Phenomenon" is interesting.

I think this is creepy to - I agree that the fact that she mentioned it is worse than actually looking. I like to see people I know on their sites, but this whole idea scares me. Like this site - I don't tell anyone that I frequent here because i don't want them invading my space. Posting my real name, my pets' names, etc always gives makes me a little nervous because I don't want my ST world discovered my anyone in my "real" life. Gosh that sounds crazy, doesn't it? So if someone was looking me up - I'd be disturbed.

You may be surprised at the amount of info you can find on people on the interent. While Googling I discovered that a girl that I know (not a friend, per se, but an aquaintance) is in the ...umm...adult entertainment industry. Why she would use her real name I don't know, but there she was, in all her glory! Yikes.

Oh I totally agree that stalking people online is pretty normal - if I had been in the same situation as her, I would have looked too!  It's the fact that she discussed what she found at length with FH's mom that's weird to me.  I've never even met this chick, but FH and I were discussing it and it turns out that she had quite the crush on him when he used to work there too .  So maybe on some weird level, 'outing' me gave her some kind of satisfaction even though she's getting married to someone else?

How distasteful, on any account though.  I thought it was kind of known that the cardinal rule about message boards is that you don't mention them IRL?  Anyway, I've asked the support service at the Knot to delete my account; I guess I'll make up some alter-ego to post under that nobody would be able to connect with either of us in any way.  Bummer .
