yeah - I like Fitzgerald. He seems like a straight shooter with no BS whatsoever. Though - do you think Rove will eventually be indicted? Bush will really be hurting if he is.

I have no idea if Rove will be indicted. I personally think he's crooked but I only want him indicted if he did something illegal. It's interesting that he wasn't indicted yesterday - Fitzgerald seemed very keen, during his press conference, to convey the weight of the issues at stake and part of me thinks he's going after Rove but being *extremely* thorough about it, possibly looking into broader issues etc.

The whole deal is really, really ugly, but hiding from it isn't a productive thing to do, imo.

I think Rove is going to escape the noose on this one...it's just a guess. This whole thing reminds me a lot of Watergate, though, at least in the way the investigation seems to be going, as the chain of blame keeps going higher & higher. Do you guys think Cheney had a hand in all this too?

On another, unrelated, note, if your name was Scooter, and your career advanced as high as the White House, wouldn't you go by something else?

that is the $20 million question. seriously what grown man refers to himself as, or responds to scooter? honestly i think rove & cheney had a role in it. i just don't buy that scooter got the information from a reporter.

Anyway, I don't think Rove is in the clear at all. If I were Rove, I'd be sweating. If I were Cheney, I'd be sweating. I think the charges against Libby are part of Fitz trying to get Libby to cave and testify against 'Official A' (Rove). Fitz has Libby by the balls (ew, sorry) on the perjury and obstruction charges, Libby is 55 years old - who thinks he's going to choose possibly lengthy prison time over giving Cheney/Rove up?

The best part of Fitz's press conference was at the end when he said a few words about America and justice etc. I wanted to kiss him. Seriously, it almost made me cry. What Bush and Co. have done to the idea of 'America' over the past few years makes me want to puke, and Fitz actually gave the idea a little polishing there.

I obv. think Cheney was in on Libby's dealings. He was his boss. It just isn't realistic that Libby was some kind of rogue operative.

I hope you're right about this. The impression I've been getting from the news is that Rove may have escaped the noose. I know you're in Canada, though -- maybe you're getting a different, less-biased view? Anyway, I think Rove is guilty as sin, and Cheney probably is, too. I hope they get what they deserve, whatever that is.

Cheney has always given me the creeps. He reminds me of Mr. Burns from the Simpsons ("eeeexcellent....").

mia, I haven't given up... just disgusted and pessimistic. I feel like Scooter's going to take the fall, the same way I feel like Harriet Miers - despite her misguided style and schoolgirl gushiness - was a straw dog/sacrificial lamb (but that's another thread)...

Anyway, on the Plame case, I am still wondering when Novak is going to be taken to task for his part. Did anyone see 60 Minutes last night? He not only mentioned Valerie Plame, but a reported the name of a fake company that the CIA set up for agents to use as a cover. So any other agent using he name of that company as a cover (for being a CIA operative) would be blown as well. Not sure it's a crime for a reporter to uncover something like that, but still.. I am just really surprised that Novak is skating by on all of this so far.

I have no faith that Cheney or Rove will get theirs, though I am certain that this is among many questionable things they have done over the years (and among the least of their offenses as far as I am concerned... not that I don't think this is serious, either). It is just a shame that Libby is probably not half the asshole those two are, and he's the one going down.

eta - european papers are making connections between this and the downing street memo, bringing that up again. Indeed, wtf happened w/ that?
