i saw these photos yesterday in an issues of some tvguide-esque magazine that we get free in the mail - i believe they are shots from the episode that will air next (in two weeks, right?). you can see that the teddy bear from the last episode that showed the others at one time belonged to a child that was in the tail section of the plane (it could have been her legs we saw, obviously not sure)
here are more photos from the episode about the tail survivors -

I think those are from the 'The Other 48 Days' episode (where we see the first 48 days of the Tailies). I don't think that's the next episode. The next episode is Shannon-centric Iand titled 'Abandoned') and I heard a spoiler that it's a female who dies and she is killed by one of the Losties (I heard it was Claire killing Shannon, but that seems sooo obvious to kill of Shannon).
But, anyway, that first photo certainly makes it seem like some of the tailies got 'the sickness' (that turns them into 'others'???) and validates Danielle's stories. Or, that 'the others' were just as obsessed with these kids as they were with Walt. Either way, I think you're right that it was the child's legs.
ETA this info (episode summary and guest stars--Boone is back for this episode!):
Sawyer's wound becomes life-threatening as he, Michael and Jin make their way through the interior of the island with the tail section survivors. Meanwhile, Shannon is once again haunted by visions of Walt. Also, Shannon's shocking past of her former marriage as well as her manipulation of people prior to the crash are revealed. Plus, there is the revelation on the death of Shannon's father who ended up in the hospital where Jack worked. Lastly, Charlie becomes jealous of Locke's interest in Claire.
oh yeah, duh. i totally forgot that the preview we saw at the end of the last episode was all shannon-focused. maybe the way that they have been suggesting that locke is moving in on claire and her baby suggests that claire is the one who dies? then that would lead to a struggle between charlie and locke over who would care for the baby? that could definitely create some interesting tension on the island as well. i haven't been keeping up with the speculation over the next episode though. i agree it would be a bit too obvious if it's shannon who is the one who gets killed off, but when boone died everyone kind of expected it.
