Yeah, you know, I know a lot of people will be happy about this, but now what? Second choice may be worse....

I'm really bummed about it. I read more about her and I really liked her. Oh well. I'm actually hoping he selects Janice Green as a replacement.

i kinda liked her, too (((ducking)))

it seems to me that withdrawing her had more to do with appeasing right-wing GOP members than democrats because she wasn't conservative enough for them.  i think that the dems who supported getting rid of her nomination may have shot themselves in the foot in terms of who they may end up having to confirm now--miers seems to have been the best shot they had of getting someone not totally rabidly-conservative on the court--she was a little bit of a wild card and i liked that about her.

and i know the arguments about tokenism and etc., but i really feel strongly that we need to have a woman appointed.

I agree - but some of the reports I read are speculating that he nominated a woman that he knew wouldn't get confirmed so when the subject came up he could say "I gave you a woman but.." - I'd like to believe that isn't true, but I guess we'll see.
