Part-time Job Switch..
Permalink Closed

i mentioned before that i work at bcbg part-time because i had the job in college, it's easy, fun, i like the girls that i work with, and i make good money there.  the discount isn't bad either.    i work full time as a nurse.

well, recently the clothing at the store just hasn't been doing it for me.  i mentioned in a style poll post that i feel like it's like looking into my own closet.  i think also the fact that i take off of work for vacations often and since this is the holiday season and the busiest time, my manager is getting annoyed even though i said when i was hired i was just there as supplemental help in opening up a new store, so i feel like i'm not getting the best vibe from her either (i think SHE is the one who should question a change as she is seriously over retail).

so recently, my bf's friend approached him about me working at his laser hair removal place.  the pay is great, it's easy, and i don't have to deal with feeling bad about wanting new year's off from retail.  and there is a perk...free laser hair removal.  it also involves me directly using my nursing degree so i could use it on resumes and not feel stupid when i tell people that i work there (sometimes i get weird looks when i tell people that i work in retail along with my "Real" career).

the only thing is that it is super nice to have the discount at a store that i love and i know the second that i leave i will miss such a direct impact with fashion, and he will have an amazing spring line that i want everything.  it happened when i left philly so i kept the job when i moved to chicago.  my other concern is that this guy is my bf's friend's friend (confusing) so what if something happened, i don't want my bf to look bad.

ladies, i need some help.

I completely understand your wanting to change jobs. I'm not staying at my part-time retail job through the holidays either. It's just too crazy with the mall hours and with my awful commute. I've done my time with working weekends and holidays. I'm not doing it this year.  I'm supposed to be 'supplemental' as well, but they keep asking more of me and I don't want to work anymore than I already do.

That said, I think that the other job sounds like a better option for you at this point in your life. Yes, it's nice to be around clothes and it's nice to get a discount, but like you said, you can put this other job on your resume and not feel weird about it. I say take it.

PS- I might be biased b/c I'm such a retail hater.

take the other job.  easy decision in my eyes.  if i had a ton of money, the first thing i would buy is laser hair removal!  So that'll save you thousands right there!  You will have your holidays off, the pay is great (i'm assuming its more than BCBG?), the clothes there are starting to bore you anyway, you can use your area of expertise, and ..the clincher...retail will always take you back.  Always.  So while I don't advise quitting the laser hair removal job asap because you don't want anyone to look bad..you could always leave in 6 mo-1 year and go back to part time retail if you REALLY miss it- and possibly at a different store.  Maybe a dept. store like Nordstrom so you never get bored of the clothes?
