This is my first post on stylethread, and I just wanted to say that this place is so wonderful. I found you guys about a week ago, and I can't stop looking at all the great posts on here. So, I finally decided to join because I want to join in on the fun, too!
OK, so my question is which of these bags matches my style the most. I guess I would describe my style as a mixture of new and old, with girly elements thrown into the mix. I also like to wear neutrals, like brown, black, white, and gray. And I pretty much live in jeans. Here's a picture of an outfit I wore a couple months ago. (Yeah, I know that it's a long time ago, and I don't wear cowboy boots anymore, but I have a camera with a Gig of memory on there, so I never upload my pictures.)
Here are the bags, in many different colors:
Moss (Green) Kenneth Cole Bag
Black Kenneth Cole Bag
Toffee (Brown) Kenneth Cole Bag
Chocolate (Brown) DKNY Bag
Black DKNY Bag
I hope you guys can help me! My boyfriend wants to buy me one of these bags for our 5 year anniversary, and I'd like to pick the one that I can get the most use out of and use the longest. I'm leaning towards the Kenneth Cole one because it is much cheaper than the DKNY bag, but I really need your opinions before I make a final decision!
Welcome !! I'm not sure what your normal bag requirements are but mine has to do with size and if it can fit on my shoulder. I like the size of the kenneth cole ones but they look strange when placed on the manequin's shoulder. Like they are too big to be under your arm if that makes any sense to you.
I love the DKNY bag but I'm clueless to the cost so if its out of the range then I think you are fine with one of the kenneth cole ones but if its in the range I'd go with the DKNY just because I like the shape of it and think it would meet my requirements of size and shoulder wear the best.
I vote for black in any of the bags. I love the idea of a green bag but the one in the pic doesn't look very green - more of a brown. Have you seen it in real life? Are you trying to stay neutral??
hello! i like the toffee kenneth cole one, and the two DKNY ones, both colors. Not crazy about the black or green in the kc one, not sure why. doesn't look buttery enough.
Oops! I guess I should be more specific about my requirements for the bag.
OK, the main thing I want my bag to be is huge. I want to use it as a school bag to put my books in, and also as a weekend bag. I'd really like the bags to be leather, and stay in the neutral palette. Oh, and I want to spend less than $300 on the bag. Hopefully, less than $200, but if the bag is nice enough, my boyfriend is willing to splurge.
I've never had a black bag before, so I'm kind of apprehensive about buying a black bag that's so expensive. What are your thoughts on black bags? Are they easy to use as everyday bags, or are they reserved for special occasions?
I need your help! If you guys have seen any other bags that fit into my criteria, I'd really like to see them too.
i have always used black bags until recently when I got a few bright green bags and I love my green bags. They are bright and colorful and really spice up a plain outfit.
as far as a school bag goes I think you would be ok with the kenneth cole ones for notebooks but i'm not sure about textbooks fitting in the bag and not being too heavy.
I love Kenneth Cole bags! Have you seen those in person? I've seen the toffee bag you posted, and I think it's an odd color in person. It's the color of those butterscotch chips. It's just not the color I was expecting. I personally was looking for more of a camel. It's a nice bag, though. I voted for the moss, but the black is nice too. I just got this bag from zappos, and it would hold a book or two. I think it's big, and it's perfectly slouchy. It's by Lumiani. I got the last bag too, but returned it because I thought the strap was a little bit wider, but it is a very nice bag. Just some suggestions for ya!
It's $195 at Zappos and comes in Camel too... and brown
This one was nice too (strap issue for me), and it's big.

Thanks for your help lsubatgirl!
I am a Literature major, so I don't really have big textbooks, just notebooks and novels. Do you ladies think that these bags can hold a notebook and two novel-sized books, besides all the other things I need, like a water bottle and a pencil bag?
oh well in that case you should easily be able to fit your school books in any of those bags. I just went and measured my green bag and it is 11x5x8 (LxWxH) and I can easily fit my wallet, pens, digital camera, organizer/planner, lean pocket lunch, bottled water (16 oz size) and still have room for a few more things in it for work everyday. I carry way too much stuff in my bags.
The kenneth cole one or the ones cricket posted (dark brown one and black - I can't get my cut and paste to work right now) should be perfect. Ok must get back to studying
Thanks cricket! What a coincedence that we posted at the exact same time! I was wondering about how the bags looked in real life. So, the toffee isn't a nice, caramel brown? Oh, well. So, that one's off my list. I really liked this bag that you posted: . But it probably won't fit all my stuff. Arg.
I forgot to welcome you too, so welcome! Anyway, my Lumiani bag is BIG. Here are the dimensions... Dimensions: 18.5" x 2.5" x 12" with a shoulder drop of 15". The KC's dimensions are
13"L x 14"H x 5"W, so it's not a big difference. Plus it's so slouchy that it conforms to whatever you have in there. I had a change of clothes in there the other day!
Also, remember w/ Zappos, they have free QUICK shipping and returns, so you can try it out and not be out of pocket a cent if you don't like a bag! They did have that KC bag awhile ago. Might be gone now.
Hi guys . It's me again. I've never spent this much money on a bag before, so I really need more opinions about the bags. Here are some more pictures of the Kenneth Cole bags:
