Interview - what to wear?

On a whim I sent out a resume for a part time job (3 days a month) today & I have an interview Monday. I am going to meet with someone at a temp agency & the job will be very casual. But what do I wear? Going through my closet I realize I have been really good at stream lining my closet to my casual life. What if I do black pants, a cami / tank & a blazer or cardigan? Just plain but professional?

I would have to buy black pants - if you can even believe that - but I need some anyway....

ETA: I have a beautiful new aqua velvet blazer - if it is warm her on Monday is it stupid to wear that? I mean, It is almost November for goodness sakes! (looks like it will be 65 ish?)

Congrats on the interview! I would definitely go with a cardi or blazer, and I think the aqua blazer sounds nice. Since it's a light color with a winter fabric, I think it would be very appropriate for this time of year.


For some reason, I always like to wear lighter colors on interviews, because they supposedly make you appear more "approachable." ?? I read this somewhere and now I always do it. So I am seeing gray pants. Maybe something like this:

I always err on the side of caution for interviews, no matter how casual the position ultimately is. You have to get it first. *s* And first impressions can really help - or hurt.

If you don't have a suit, then I'd do pants (or better yet, a skirt) and a blazer. Even if it's warm. You only have to wear it into and out of the building, so you hopefully wouldn't swelter too much. Good luck!

I think you could totally get away with wearing the aqua blazer, a white-button down and black pants/skirt, pearls, conservative shoes.  Girl, I'm wearing tweed today and it's 60-something (and you know I also live in big D), so don't worry about the blazer being velvet.  Unless you're interviewing for a pretty conservative job, it's okay to wear texture (i.e. velvet, tweed) just so long as the pieces are structured because it looks more professional.  I was told this by the legal recruiter I went through to get my job and usually, they have pretty stringent rules of what is appropriate interview attire.
