Care package for a college student?

My husband wants to send a care package to his niece who is a freshman in college.  I have been trying hard to come up with ideas, but so far all I've got is a pre-paid calling card.  Any ideas?  College girls, what would you want?

I received a few of those over the years and here's what I found in some of mine.

gum
notepads
pens
single serve snacks
Popcorn singles for one
chocolate
trial size health and beauty items
Oral B Brush Ups


That's all I can think of for now...I'll add more as I remember. HTH!

my care packages always had necessities.


toothpaste, toothbrush, some kind of snack bar, quarters for laundry, advil, magazines and if i got lucky some homemade cookies.

some fun stuff like halloweeny stuff or thanksgiving or christmas or whenever he sends it


disposable camera


gift certificates to AMC or other theatres (whatever's near her school)


whatever you send, please don't forget to include a nice note!  whenever i got care packages, i always felt a little deflated if there wasn't a note :/

Easy Mac!!!  Just add hot water and you have a serving of mac and cheese!!!!

see if you can call the student life office if you're not familiar with the area to get some suggestions, but a GC to a local restaurant would be AWESOME!  (college students crave real food!)

I'm always needing stupid things that I never thought twice about at home because they were just always there. Things like tape, redi-wrap, advil, a nice snuggly blanket, bottled water, snacks etc.

Most of this has been said but I want to emphasis that this is what college students need (I just graduated in May):


definitely homemade cookes, magazines, gift cards, candy, maybe even some bath stuff (lotions, soaps, etc), disposable cameras, even some jewelry from Claires or wherever is fun and cute to get, pic frame for her dorm, and definitely a little first aid kit.  HTH

snacks/candy/little meals (the annie's white cheddar easy mac is AWESOME)

maybe those oral-b flossing picks?  I hate flossing but love these


some sort of pain-killer if she might be the type to forget those


Airborne/Emergen-C, any of those fun fizzy things that give you vitamin c so that she can ward off colds in the winter months!

also those little crystal light packs you  can put in a bottle of water and make lemonade, fruit punch, etc


they have some generic ones at walmart that are way cheaper and taste as good!


i like the fruit punch and the lemonade :)

My room mate is always getting mail and I'm jealous. I'd love to get a care package and it's so sweet that your husband thought of that.


I would ditto magazines, cookies, candy and the GCs but what about one of those gift cards that are like a debit card that you can use anywhere? Fun lotion or cheap gadgets like you find at the checkout of BB and Beyond would be fun. I also saw (surprisingly) cheap little remote control cars at Wal-Mart the other day. I think they were less than $12 but I want one to play around with in the dorm to zip down to my friends room down the hall. (I'm such a nerd)


Definitely send a note of encouragement! Getting mail is always fun.

i would actually say no to teh practical things.. like advil and whatnot, b/c someone always has that stuff. seasonal practical things are good.. like the fizzy drink things for colds, hat and gloves, fun umbrella..


also, maybe fun dvds? a fun book or small game? (thinking something from urban outfitters) gourmet cookies or hot chocolate or something?  i-tunes gc's or credit if she has an ipod... stabucks cards.. and def. a fun note from the both of you.

i definitely say buy fun stuff. it's always better to get that kind of stuff in a care package than the practical things.


i love getting magazines! i think a subscription would be a really cool thing to send in a care package. my mom did this & put a copy of the magazine & a note about the subscription. it was cute & a good way to get something every month. (i love getting mail haha.)


some shower stuff would be a good idea too. body wash or scrub & a cute loofah thing.


i definitely agree about the homemade cookies. it's cheap but really thoughtful.


a target or walmart gift card is probably the best thing anyone in college can get because you can use them for everything. that is probably something you definitely want to stick in there.
