What to wear (1st day of school)?

Okay, so I suppose my Tom & Jerry canvas school bag and Mickey Mouse Club lunch box won't cut it this time. They were the shiz in 1980 when I went to kindergarten!

I'm 36, and I start in-person classes at Kent State on August 30th. I'm taking Information Architecture and Usability I as part of my User Experience Design graduate certificate program (for a description: http://www.iakm.kent.edu/user-experience-design). Most students will be coming in after a day at work, as the class is in the evening. Students will probably be mostly in their late 20's and 30's, I think.

I have already taken 2 online courses with the program.

Kent State is my alma mater for my BA (psychology) and my M.Ed. (higher education administration/student services).

It should still be pretty warm up there.

So far, the teachers seem quite laid back. It's a very techie-centric program, but not the in-a-cave-all-day-computer-science sort. More like the WIRED Magazine techie-hip sort.

Any ideas?

I'm so excited, and I don't want to look or act like Joan and Barri from Campus Ladies (Oh how I miss that show). Thanks!

If it were me, I'd wear jeans, some cute wedge sandals (easier to walk in) and a favorite top.

How exciting that you're starting your program!

Congratulations on going back to school, I love school!

I'd ditto D's idea. And, since classrooms are either freezing cold or hot as hell, I'd pack a cute little casual blazer or scarf in case the a/c is kicking.

I'd wear jeans, a cute top and cardi (chilly classrooms.) And flats because there always seems to be more walking around on a campus. Good luck! It sounds really exciting!

This is just the outfit I thought of, too.

I would go business casual if it's a small class (less than 25 people). Even as an undergrad I wore skirts and blazers to classes, and it helped my reputation with professors immensely since I stuck out like a sore thumb.
