What playlists do you have on your ipod (or other such toy)???

Mine is quite empty it being fairly new so I'm hoping to get ideas on how to categorize my music from you girls.  So far I figure I need a general list, a gym list, and slow song list. Exact titles are yet to be determined.

Well, what kind of music do you like? I have everything on mine from Kid Rock to Enya & Nora Jones for relaxing music, lots of disco / oldies, old school techno, etc. I basically loaded my favorite songs from CDs I had & loaded all of that. We will download new songs from time to time & then sync it so they will be added - give us more of an idea what you are looking for - I'd be happy to share a more detailed list of my funky grooves / disco stuff. That is what I like best for upbeat stuff like exercising or even cleaning my house!

Maybe I am just lame, but I pretty much only have "running" and "slow".  Those are the only playlist groups that I really need.  Maybe I need to branch out...

oh sorry, now I feel like an ass! I am not at all organized, I am big on playing mine random because somehow it always knows what I need to hear. I only have 2 categories & i don't even keep those up very well: "corny upbeat" & "melancholy" - so lame.

i have some broken down by albums and some by music.  mine are:

BEP (the new BEP album)

LAMB (gwen's album)

MINI1 Running (i have the IPod adaptor in my MINI and that is how it recognizes it to play it over the stereo)  on it is a lot of newer top 20 type songs

MINI2 Driving: on this one i have Ryan Adams, Elizabethtown, Garden State and Coldplay

MINI3 Mitch Hedburg: obviously- this is my comic relieft when i am in the car (i drive about 3000 miles a month!) and currently i am listening to Mitch Hedburg's stuff.  Before that it was Dane Cook

MINI4 Scissor Sisters: and this is... The Scissor Sisters!  i love love love this album and listen to it constantly!!!!!!!!!

and that is it for now.  i am constantly changing and updating it though.  and my friend constantly supplies me with random bands to listen too as well.

i have a bunch of playlists, but there's not really a method to it usually whenever i upload new stuff (songs, cds, etc) i bunch a lot of the stuff i like together on a playlist. additionally every few weeks i make a new gym mix of about 15-20 songs (i get bored really easily) so i have a ton of on the go's that are just gym music. as far as ones with names there's cleaning, disco, longing (a playlist for songs about unrequited love), a new year's eve mix from last year, which is also my going out mix, self esteem (yeah i'm that dorky, i have a list of songs that i listen to when i'm feeling meh and don't want to wallow in it, alternatively i have another list of songs for when i do), booty shake, and two walking lists (upbeat and mellow) for when i'm doing a lot of shopping and don't want to fiddle with my player.

i have one for working out that i change every week or so, three different "walking to class" ones to choose from depending on what mood i'm in, & one with slower music that i listen to when i'm having trouble falling asleep in my dorm.

i have a bunch of playlists on my mini- some are by genre (ex. reggae, country, "i heart rock and roll"), some are by artist (tupac, postal service), and some are just albums that i've downloaded (ex. bloc party-silent alarm).  i know that ipods do catagorize your songs for you, but i like to make my own list of my favorites.

my random mixes are named:  chillllll, dance motherf*cker dance (my shout out to the violent femmes), favorites, fiesta fiesta, rainy weekend, red-eye (mellow stuff for a recent flight), say it out loud, spring fever mix, whisper, workout mix, and then a bunch of mixes that i've made for friends and named after them.  i try to think of creative names to reflect the mood of the playlist, but most of the time i'm too lazy...

i have about 10 different gym mixes of mostly upbeat stuff (very creatively named running 1, running 2, etc...)

then the rest of mine are thematic, and named after the seven dwarves: sleepy, grumpy, happy, etc.  i haven't figured out what to put on the "doc" one yet--maybe the gray's anatomy soundtrack (i am such a dork).

my brother did his by music genre and named them "get your rock on," "get your disco on," "get your metal on," etc. lol

I'm obsessed with playlists. I will spend hours making them. They all have weird names, it's embarassing when people look at my iTunes.

Let's Make Babies (I made this for my boyfriend before he was my boyfriend. I've never told him it was called this.)
Chaat Street (An On The Go playlist I made in India)
Clearasil (Middle school music)
Nicotine (My nighttime driving mix)
Spirit (Daytime driving)
Runway (For walking around campus)
Celebrity Playlist I-III (If I were asked to make a celeb playlist for iTunes)
Self explanatory ones...
Cheese
I Madly In Love
He's Just Not That Into You
Covers
Run
Yeah Yeah Yeahs Faves
White Stripes Faves
Dylan Faves
Magnetic Fields Faves
Mirah Faves
Mountain Goats Faves
I also want to start making a playlist for every month. I did that for a while last year and it's fun to go back and see what I was listening to.

Sorry to hijack, what's on your unrequited love one? I had one like that called I'm Going to Die Alone but then I got rid of it as it was just too depressing. However, unrequited love is one of my favorite song topics.

I pretty much just have "commute" to listen to on the train and "gym". Otherwise I'll just listen to one album or put it on random.

Well, ladies with extensive playlists, may I say welcome to CLUB OCD??? - I am dying laughing over here because now that I have seen this, I MUST do it. But I have questions...

Anyone can answer but maybe more specifically Maddie - are some songs in multiple categories? Like I could see some of mine going in categories like what you call "clearasil" & "covers" - just curious.

Laken, for me playlists are not a way of sorting out songs, but a method of making superior mixes. So therefore songs can go in multiple categories, although it is best to keep this to a minimum. In terms of making playlists for a specific car ride or a friend or something though I really only have a bank of like 50 songs or so that I actually use so there are often repeats there.

This is a total highjack, but on the subject of iPods - my battery went dead yesterday while I was walking so when I came home, I plugged it into my husband's charger....and yes....it wiped out mine & put all his gross, hard, crazy, metal, slipknot craziness in the place of my fun butt shaking & disco...GRRRRRRRRRR

So he has to fix it tonight since I don't know how. For being so smart, sometimes I can be so dumb...

And thanks Maddie for allowing me to see the playlists in a new way....since we have to sync mine tonight anyway, today is playlist day!!!!!

Now you guys have me wanting to play with my playlists.  I'm boring with mine.  I have a workout playlist and a Background Music playlist that has songs that aren't totally offensive for when I'm at work because I learned the hard way that Sex Bomb by Tom Jones just isn't really "work appropriate."  And neither is "Baby Got Back."  Sooo embarrasing!

Ok, here's what I've come up with - I really am a nerd
Alternative
Are you serious? (for songs that I think wouldn't believe I listen to, from N'Sync, to Ace of Base, to Tom Jones)
Awesome 80s Dude
Beachy (bob marley, jimmy buffett type stuff)
Corny Upbeat - my original one so i left it
Dirty dirty bad boy (2 live crew, ridiculous f**k song & such - can you believe I have enough for a category?)
Hip Hop / Rap - I need a name - everything I come up with feels offensive. (my gosh I'm so white!)
Kid Favs w/ Unk - Kid Rock - my absolute favorite, and for whatever reason I associate him with Uncle Kracker - they were friends even before they were famous & he just doesn't fit anywhere else...
Kingfish - old X club I frequented back in the day - so terrible, but I still love some old school techno!
Melancholy - slow stuff
Rock Out
Studio 54 Dancing Queen
Walk - for other stuff I love but doesn't fit....

Wow. That took forever.

FUN THOUGH!! Thanks Maddie for having me look at it like I would burning a CD - duh, I had never thought of it that way.
