Brooklyn Handknit?

ahh their website doesn't really work...

www.spacialetc.com

but in the pics on the homepage, it eventually flashes to a fair isle type knit cardigan wrap sweater (its after a girl wearing a teal poncho as a beach cover up.)

I have been to the spacial etc. store on n. 6th ish in brooklyn and i'm in love with these thick handknit cardigans- they are SO nice, but are $400!! I want one so bad- does anyone have any advice on where to find something similar but a little less pricey- I don't mind spending up to $300 on a quality sweater, espec. one that is somewhat unique. I love three of them!! One is grey fair isle, one is cream and really thick wrap, and one might also be cream but has kind of a horn piece on the belt (all are wraps). Lilykind- I think you'd love them. CC, other brooklyn girls- do you know the sweaters i'm talking about?

oh spacial! that was my "browsing while waiting for sunday brunch" store! i miss that place and mini-mini market.

because it's such a small boutique, they really don't have sales until the very end of the season. i bought a $500 poncho there for like $75... so when there are discounts, they are quite considerable but don't expect them until late feb/early march. the bk handknit is usually left over in surplus, so i wouldn't worry about them running out.

I'm wondering if you could commission a knitter to do it for you? Maybe try craftster.org or a stitch N bitch group in your area? But you really might find out that by the time you purchase the yarn & pay the commission that it's just as cheap to get it from them. That is BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm drooling over some of those cardigans as well.. sigh.
