Ok, i don't want to jinx myself, so i'm not going to go too much into details yet, but i was offerred to be an assistant for a small fashion line that is on the rise. I am REALLY excited, and she offerred me the job, but since they are used to unpaid positions, they need to make sure that there is enough work for me and that i'm the right fit for the job, so i have a two week trial or whatever (she said it nicely, like don't be nervous, but of course, it made me nervous!)

Ok, so I need advice on how to wow these people. I want to stay on and work for them, obviously I can't control how much work they have, but I can work my hardest. I would do numerous things- running errands in the garment district, helping them with bookkeeping, helping to pack up their orders...She mentioned the accounting program Quicken- does anyone have any experience on it? Is it easy to use? She said she had it on her comp but hasn't downloaded it yet. I want to be a hardworker and work my butt off, but not come across as too inexperienced or desperate for the job, you know? Advice or experiences?

My current job stemmed from my last internship before graduation. I was then an intern at a talent agency (now an admin. asst and I need to get the hell out but that's another story ) and I did a lot of things to ensure that they would want to keep me. I made it a point to know as much about the clients as I could. Also, I kept up to speed on all the projects we were working on to the point at which I could spit out information if one of my bosses just threw out a question to all of the assisstants in general. Just stay on top of your game and you'll be fine. You're very smart and I'm sure you'll do an awesome job.


My understanding about Quicken is that it's pretty easy to use, since it's general software that designed to allow one to keep track of how their business is doing as a whole. My dad used Quicken to keep track of our finances when I was growing up (this was through the 90s), and my boyfriend has also used Quicken in the past to aid with doing his own taxes (but he has an accounting degree so he doesn't count). If you encounter diificulty with it at all on the first day, maybe mess around with it at home. They have forums and blogs and everything too on their website .
