Am I handling this okay? *LONG*
Permalink Closed

To start, I found someone on another forum who expressed an interest in my old Uggs (the too big pair). We PM'ed a few times and she asked to see pictures. I took pics and emailed them to her. When I hadn't heard from her after about 2 days, I PM'ed her asking if she got my email; She said no, so I just PM'ed her the links to the photos.

After that, it was over a week before I heard anything from her, and even then, I had to PM her AGAIN, to get a response. At that time, she said that she wanted to figure out if the boots would be too tall on her, and said that she would get back to me on the upcoming Sunday night. I did not hear from her at all, until once again, I PM'ed her asking what she thought, and also at this time mentioned that I needed a definite response by Thursday so that I could start figuring out what my plan of action was.

She responded the Saturday after that telling me that she did want to buy them. I almost said no, just because at this point, I was kind of frustrated with her super slow response time to all the messages.

But, I thought "Hey, that's $75!", so I told her that was awesome, and gave her the details on the price, and what I can accept at PayPal.

2 days later, she asked me if she could pay me on Wednesday (yesterday) because it was her payday. I said sure, that would be fine.

Today is Thursday and I have yet to see any activity in my PayPal account. I'm am BEYOND frustrated with her because she keeps telling me days that she's going to give me decisions/payment on, and then she never follows through! I have to send her a message to get a response.

I just sent her ANOTHER PM today asking her if she was sure that she wanted the boots. I mentioned that she had said she would send payment yesterday but that I hadn't received anything yet. I also gave her a deadline of 5pm tomorrow to send payment if she was going to buy them; Also the same deadline to let me know what's going on if she doesn't want to buy them. I also said I'd need to cancel the transaction if I didn't hear from her by then.

I'll add here that it's been over 2 weeks since she expressed interest and the contacting started..

I just really hate things being up in the air and not having anything definite. I have told her a few times that it's totally cool if she doesn't want to buy them, but I do need a decision so I can figure out what to do with the boots. I do mean that too, since I don't really care anymore if I sell them or not.

Now, I know that people have lives away from staring at their computers for messages, but I have seen her posting on the forum multiple times when I'm waiting for a response, so I know she would have seen her mail. My personal thought is, if she has the free time to be on the forum and posting threads, then she should have the free time also to take a minute to send me the payment.

ARGHHH!! Okay, any advice at all? Do you think I'm handling it okay? I'm not being rude at all in my PM's, since I don't start crap like that, but I have been direct.

Just let her know you expect payment by monday, or you will sell them to someone else.

I think you are being super patient, i guess I would put up with it for that long from someone on a board I frequented, but if it weren't for that I would have blown it off already. I think you've given her plenty of time & you are being more than fair. If you don't have your money tomorrow, move on. Try to find another buyer or list them on ebay.

sorry you are having to deal with this - i hate it when others are flakey on stuff like that!!!

You are definitely being amazingly patient and nice. If you are really active on that board and would feel weird about giving her an ultimatum and then cutting off contact if she didn't comply you could always say something like "I have a friend who has expressed interest in the Uggs so if I don't get payment from you by X day I'm going to sell them to her. I totally understand if you changed your mind about buying them, no hard feelings." That way if she truly does want them she'll pay up rather than risk losing them but if she's a super flake and is debating whether to go through with the transaction she'll have an easy out. But if you don't really care about your relationships on that board there isn't really any need to massage the truth like that.

I am pretty active on that board, so yeah, I don't want to "burn bridges"...

I guess I did give her an ultimatum yesterday, but I'm hoping I sound polite in it. Here's what I sent:

"Hey, I really don't intend to be pushy, but are you 100% you want the boots? I'm only asking because you had said you would pay for them on Wednesday and I have not seen any activity in my PayPal account as of yet.

If you do still want them, awesome, but I need the payment by Friday, no later than 5pm, or I'll need to cancel the transaction. For my own peace of mind, I don't like things being up in the air, so a final decision on the action for these boots is necessary for me.

If you don't want them, for whatever reason, like I've said before, that's totally cool, but I do need a decision by the time above.

Hope to hear from you,
-Carrie"

Does that sound really rude or anything??

I think that the letter sounds fine as well. If she is having second thoughts,  I think that your letter gives her an easy out (not that you haven't already given her multiple chances). I also think that you have been uber patient.  Perhaps she had other stuff going on that has kind of prevented her from getting back to you/ paying you.   I am just trying to rationalize (that's just how I am).  I hope that it all works out!

that sounds fine, not rude at all. if she still does want them and happens to lag again, then forget about it with her. good luck!

Don't worry, I didn't forget about ya   I'll PM you tonight and let you know if she responded at all.  I almost kind of hope she doesnt because this whole thing with her has been a hassle to me.
