Birthday gifts for 8 year old girls?
Permalink Closed

I'm going to visit my cousins in Florida next month and will be there for the 8th birthday of their twin girls.  Since I haven't seen them since they were 5, I'm at a loss as to what to get them.  What do 8 year old girls like?  I know that they are size 7, but as to their individual interests, their mom basically just said "anything you get is fine."  That is not helpful.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Even a possible store I could look for something?  I don't want to be that person who gives the kids a lame gift, you know?

little coach purses or accessories would go over well. how much do you want to spend?

isn't Justin Beiber popular among that set?

I don't have any 8 year olds in my life, but music-related merchandise, clothes, accessories and trendy stuff seem to be attractive to 8 year olds...

I'm thinking only around $25-30 because I have to buy 2 gifts. Justin Beiber might be a good idea. I'll bet that someplace like Kohls or Target would have backpacks & t-shirts and the like with him plaster on them?

Any other ideas? It used to be so easy. Just get them something with Dora the Explorer on it and they were happy as clams.

Well I'm a giant nerd and am that cousin/aunt/friend that gives books. But I try to give kind of cool, edgier books than the kids' parents might buy them to make up for it. :)

I was just at a Coach outlet and I think they did have some little bitty coin purses and stuff for around $30. I've also seen some Juicy stuff along those lines at TJ Maxx or like a Nordstrom Rack or someplace like that.

Second giant nerd here (I'm already buying books for my unborn nephew. Not to mention trying to figure out how long I have to wait before I can start the Harry Potter series with him.) Unfortunately, my parents are send me down with a few books already so i need something different.

I didn't realize that TJ Max or Nordstrom Rack had kid sections. That's another good idea. Thanks!

also, hello Kitty do nice accessories, glittery, necklaces, purses & very nice watches! Also, check Nordtrom - they always have sale for this age - same things, accessories...

Just a heads up the Beiber thing is love/hate, some, like mine HATE him. Though she is 11. Do you have a Justice store around you? They are very popular among that age group, and have lots of spot on gift ideas. I would think fun jewelry, like you get at Claires, nail polish, girly stationary, fun room type accessories, and the likes. I have 2 girls and I could go on, and on if you need more.

Thanks everyone for such great suggestions! I'm going to do some little girl shopping this weekend. I was such a tomboy growing up that I have a very different frame of reference of what a typical 8 year old girl would like (for instance, at 8 I wanted Star Wars figures.aww)

Alb- Great suggestion! But they don't have IPods yet. My cousin (their dad) is pretty strict about things like that. I can't wait until these two start dating. My poor cousin doesn't know what's going to hit him!

Hello Kitty anything is a good idea. My friend who's that age likes HK. (And books, which doesn't help you.)

Games like Uno or Jenga that you could play with them while you're there?
