This is weird - new cc in the mail....
Permalink Closed

Get this - I received a new Circuit City credit card in the mail (yesterday), cred. line of (weird amount $1740. Anyway, what's weird is, I NEVER applied for a cc w/them, BUT! I had a card w/them back in '99, and PAID IT OFF, so...... Now I'm a lil' confused. What does this mean? How did they check my credit when I didn't apply for credit w/them since '99? My credit's been checked TOOOO MANY times this year as is. I was just wondering if anyone knew.

THANKS!

This has happened to me with Circuit City too.  Opened a card way back in the day to buy a computer, paid it off, but never closed the account.  Lo and behold, when the card expired years later, they sent me a new card but no letter explaining it's a new card, just a brand new card.  It had me waaay confused, but I went back to my old card and paperwork and figured it out.  I also called and officially closed my account.  So, if you didn't close your account, this may be the situation!

Did you close the account too or just pay it off?

Hmmmm.....now that I think about, I think I just paid it OFF, and never had it closed, so maybe that's what the deal is. WOW! I'm really trying to improve my credit score, so maybe I'll just leave this cc alone. What do you think? I read on this cred. report website that said that "having a high amount of credit is a positive factor b/c it indicates to lenders that other creditors have trusted you by lending you the money in the past".  Interesting.
