to cut or not to cut?
Permalink Closed

unlike everyone else- i know exactly what i want to do with my color!  but my thing is whether or not i want to cut about 4 inches off!

here is what it looks like. (sorry for the zoo pictures, it was all i could find from recent and for the fact that i look 12!)

here is my dillema (sp?):

i have never had long hair.  the longest it has ever been is shoulder length.  so, i decided i wanted long hair and i started growing my hair out around this time last year.  in may, i chopped it back up about an inch above my shoulders and ended up being mad at myself.  but, i have gotten the short hair bug again.  also, i work in the hair industry so i feel like my hair is "boring" for what i do.  i try to punch it up with color... i have done golden blonde with platinum highlights and panels of cherry red, platinum blond with dark brown underneath, etc.  but i feel like i am ready for short again.  but then i like having a long pony tail and feeling it brush against my shoulders when i turn my head... ARGH!  why does this have to be so hard and why do extensions have to be so damn expensive and ruin your hair!  if i hated the short, i would get them!

I say don't cut, I really like the length now and think it is very flattering.  And you can do some fun stuff with hair that length, and there is something to be said for your hair being long enough to put in a ponytail!

BTW, you're adorable!

I would keep it long, let it grow out and get chunky, choppy layers starting at the chin to give you hair some more life. Give long hair a chance...it rocks...plus after you've had your long hair experience, you can cut it off. It's only hair, right?

I think you look cute with your "growing out" hair so I would let it get longer.

Another vote for long hair. I think it looks really great at the current length but if you've never had long hair before it could be a nice change.

i like the length. i would probably just go in for a reshaping. maybe get a heavier sidesweep and chunkier layers.

ps i think darker will look fabulous on you!

What are you going to do with it when it's long?  If you only want long hair for a pony tail....boring.  Think about how many people have long hair.  Do something fun and different.  A really cute style that I've recently seen....have you seen this seasons ANTM?  I don't know her name but they just cut her hair on last week's show after putting really long extentions in....I wish I could find a picture....

i like the current length of your hair, and think you'd look great long or short. The only reason i want to say grow it longer is just so you can cut it and truly be sick of it at that point. I really like the length it is now, maybe get a new cut at that length and take it from there? i like the color on you too.

First of all, you are so pretty!

That being said, I really like the length now, so I say either keep it the way it is now or grow it out.

I like it the way it is, or maybe an inch or so shorter. I like erin's suggestion of layers, too. I feel like everyone has long hair now -- that length looks great on you!

You are gorgeous!!

I know this prob isnt what you want to hear, but I think your hair looks great just the way it is.

I wouldnt cut more than an inch or two.. and I think it would look fantastic longer as well!

You. Are. Adorable!

I like your hair the way it is. But I'm a little biased b/c I just cut mine very similar last week (shoulder length with a few layers around my face a long sweeping bangs). I am trying to grow it out since I have never had long hair. I constantly battle the grow-out vs cut-it-off thoughts.

Also I think it would look cute chin-length, too.

i love your hair. and you are so cute!! i love the sunglasses!

i would grow it out.  I had short hair for years..and it takes a lot longer to grow out a haircut than to actually cut it, so i would be 100 percent sure before you cut it.

I say cut it! I always say I'm "growing my hair out" and then when it gets long I end up just putting it up in a pony. Cut it

thanks for all your advice!

i decided to keep it at the length it is and continue to grow it.  i would really like to see what i look like with it 2-3 inches longer.

i'm really glad i kept it.  i like being able to make it sleek and smooth or wild and rocker babe or curls or up or... you get the idea!

i'll post pictures of it and my new color!  *super dark btw* when i get back from traveling and have the connector cord for my dig. camera

You're so cute, and totally remind my of Reese Witherspoon.  I'm jealous of your straight hair - I have curly hair, and pretty much have to keep it long (otherwise it's a fro).  So, if I had straight hair, I would want to play around with it and try different stuff like this:
