I truly need your help.  I thank Detroit for her suggestion of a ring but I just couldn't do it.  What should I get my friend for her birthday?  Hoping to stay in the $40 range.  She got me a bracelet so I don't want it to be the same thing.  Here's a bit of background.  She's 40ish.  She likes labels like brighton, juicy, tiffanys, etc.  She has everything!!! She used to sell candles so she has tons of them. She shops for stones/jewlery through one of the HSN things.  She is constantly at the mall.  She has three kids.  Is married.  Owns a home... Please help!  Please

Maybe try redenvelope.com? They have a nice selection of gifts and they come in a pretty red box. It looks luxurious but not as expensive as Tiffany's! I once bought a gift from them which was cashmere-lined leather gloves for my MIL and she was very pleased :) They have cashmere gloves now: http://www.redenvelope.com/re/gifts/product_display/product_information.jsp?nc=89984&BV_SessionID=@@@@0096966057.1128879090@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccddaddfkedmmgjcefecefedfgfdfmf.0&refPg=%2fproduct_display%2fgift_results.jsp&bct2=recipient&bcp2=1&bcm2=1%24%24-8070&bct4=for+her&bcp4=3&bcm4=1%24%24-8071&bct5=jewelry+%2B+accessories&bcp5=4&bcm5=29$$%2Frecipient%2Ffor+her%2Fjewelry+%2B+accessories@@30$$-8085@@35$$8085@@31$$0&catOid=-8085&oid=16424526&nc2=1

If she has a lot of jewelry, a beautiful jewelry box can be nice. Maybe a portable one to take on the plane.

Another idea is a leather-bound journal. There are many available, some very expensive since they are hand-made. If this idea appeals, I will give you some links. There can't be too many journals IMHO - even if you don't write, a beautiful blank journal feels inspirational.

In the same vein, an italian ink pen can be precious, esp. with those nice boxes they come in. Go to a nearby art supply store and there are bound to be beautiful and inspiring things there.

Personally, I would go to a farmer's market (if you have one near you) and make a basket of unusual fresh fruits, organic honey, dipping olive oil and vinegar, and a bunch of wildflowers or ornamental corn.

And finally, a huge bouquet of roses in unusual color will easily cost you 40$, and I haven't yet met a woman who wouldn't be pleased by flowers (myself included LOL).

Wow, those are great ideas, Renee. I'm horrible at coming up with gift ideas, I'm probably just too self centered.

From now on I am asking Renee for gift ideas.
