So, you would think that I, a self-sufficient woman in her mid twenties, who has been living on her own for the last five years, would not have to ask this question, but...


What is the heck is the Permanent Press cycle on my washer?  I've wondered this for years but haven't had the guts to ask anyone.  I recently moved into a new place where the washer has the following options:


Regular - Medium Soil, Regular - Heavy Soil, Perm Press - Medium Soil and Perm Press - Light Soil. 


What kinds of situations/clothes would you use Perm Press for?  What makes it different from a Regular wash? 


Permanent Press implies to me that the washer will iron your clothes for you, but that obviously ain't happening!

According to the lid of my own washer, it puts Permanent Press and Easy Care in the same category.  It sounds like Permanent Press and Easy Care refer to non-wrinkle/stain-resistant items?

wow, i was going to answer this with authority, but I may be wrong as well! I use permanent press for most things that aren't towels & such. Like my husband's polo type shirts, khakis, my clothes "good" clothes that are washable (ie, don't need to go to the cleaners). It is my understanding that maybe they are less likely to shrink & it's better for them on permanent press as opposed to the "normal" cycle that I only use for towels & such.

Anyone else?

From what I can gather doing a little google research...Permanent Press has a shorter spin cycle which minimizes wrinkling.
