Help styling a leopard print dress

So because my brother married into a crazy family, I have to wear an animal print outfit to my SIL's Safari themed baby shower next week (long story short, it's actually requested on the invite and I've "forgotten" to comply with the last two outfit instructions for other parties so I kind of have to do this one.)

Anyway, I bought a cheap dress at TJ Max becasue I'll never wear it again.   I feel like Pebbles Flintstone in it.  Can anyone make any suggestions on how to wear it?

It looks sort of like this one (only no side tie and it's a little longer.)  I was thinking of a brown woven belt and nude wedges, but is that too "blah" even with the animal print?  What kind of accesories are OK with it?

I like the idea of toning it down with nude accessories - I would do nude shoes for sure.  I like your idea.

The part of me that hates being instructed on what to wear would put on every remotely animal print item I owned to poke fun at the fact that I had to wear animal print.

Something olive green would play down the animal print and fit into the safari theme.

I like red with leopard, but it is usually read as a sexy combo.

I also love aqua with leopard.

Nude would be the most neutral way to tone it down though.

So do not want to look costumey. The dress was only $16 and while it was $16 more than I wanted to spend, I did it to keep the peace in the family. I sure and hell wasn't going to spend a lot of money on something like this.bleh I was originally going to just wear a pair of snake print sandals and ignore the protests, but I let my mom talk into taking one for the team. The things I do for this kid and he's not even born yet.

Strangely enough, my SIL's mother owns plenty of items to choose from for the party. 

I'm going to try it on with my low tan wedges and the brown woven belt.  Maybe a simple gold disc necklace and leave it at that. 

Ack. I should never have let them talk me into it. At this point I'm just hoping to avoid cameras.

I'm a big fan of animal prints and even I agree this is an odd theme. If you don't care for red with it, burgundy/plum is nice too.

Well, I tried it on over the weekend. I'm going to take your advice and wear a black cami under it, a nice brown leather woven belt, my nude wedges and a simple curved bar necklace I got from Etsy. And you know, it's just one afternoon. My SIL is so excited and she never complains about any of my plans. So I'm just going to put a smile on my face and cowboy up.

Oh, and have a drink after the party. Maybe two. Thanks for all your help, ladies!
