Engagement Party Outfit Ideas - need opinions

My parents are throwing my fiance and I am engagement party in 2 weeks at their house. Iam not sure what I should wear and want to look super cute. No jeans or anything like that but I think a dress is a bit much.


Any ideas. The party is an open house in the evening from like 6ish on... Their friends are pretty casual.


Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Would you feel comfortable in a casual skirt?  Or maybe cropped trousers and boots if the weather is going to be a little cooler?

That is the big problem the weather is such a crapshoot... dc suburbs in october it could be 40 it could be 70. I am more of a trouser kind of girl than a skirt but I cannot find a look yet.

Not feelin' the pants, really.  Gray trousers would look hot with that top though!



and then maybe you could add some oomph with some richly colored shoes?  And maybe a cardi for if it gets cool?

I just saw this sweater IRL, and LOVED it:



It's pretty lightweight, a great transitional fabric, so you could wear it in a few weeks and be ok.
