jello shots

I'm supposed to bring Jello shots to a function Friday night.  I've had them before, but it has been forever.  What do I need to do?  Just substitute vodka for the water?  Should I make the "jigglers" or put them in paper cups?  I'm going to need them for about 15 girls, and was thinking 1 or 2 each.

Check out that site and browse recipes for Jello Shots.  They have a ton.  You don't wanna take out the water.  I think you just take out 1/4 or 1/3 of the water and put in a shot or two of vodka.

Here is one recipe:

Jello Shots Recipe

Rating:

Ingredients:
2.0 packages Gelatin
1.0 cup Vodka

Directions:
Mix as directions tell you to on package, just substitute vodka for 1/2 of the water used. While in liquid form, pour into small dixie cups & put into freezer. Tequila and Everclear work just as well.

Thanks for the recipe site, Catherine.  What do you think would be most convenient to make to take to a bar?  I'm thinking maybe jigglers, but not if there are dirty hands touching all of them.  The shots in dixie cups would be more sanitary and easier to transport, but are the shots hard to get out of the cups?  Seems to me like you'd have to peel them out and it could be a pain.  I'm probably putting too much thought into this, huh?

They actually slide out of dixie cups pretty easily in my experience. Hehe. I think Jell-O shots are usually a little more liquidy than regular Jell-O so I'm not sure how well jigglers would work. But that might just be cause I can't make anything, even Jell-O. What kind of function are you going to where you are supposed to bring Jell-O shots???

how about trying to find some of those ketchup papers that you get at Wendys?  That would be perfect.

I'm playing in a ladies (squadron pilots wives) CRUD tournament.  CRUD is a game that's been played by Air Force officers for about 20 years.  It's played on a pool table with the side pockets blocked out (usually by rolls of toilet paper), or an actual crud table which is bigger.  It's hard to explain, but it's kind of like pool, without the cues and with only the white ball and the red striped ball.  You alternate being offense and defense (full contact blocking when you're defense.  It can get UGLY) and try to make the cue ball hit the striped ball in the pocket.  At the end of each game, the losing team buys drinks for the winners.  Buy the end of the night, most people are pretty toasted.

Here's a better description. http://www.f-16.net/varia_article4.html  It's a fun game of drunken bafoonery.  You kind of have to see it to believe it.  It's at our Officer's Club, and the rules are pretty lax, so you can bring stuff like that in.  It's a fun thing to do every once in a while.  A few months ago, they broke out the motorized toilets and we raced them around the club.  They went fast and it was sooo hilarious.  I crashed and burned pretty big time, but it was worth it.

In college lush days, I used to make jello shots with Everclear. Hardcore... but they get drunk FAST. Anyway... I mixed the Everclear with water. I also would make cherry, orange, and lime because I like a variety.

I have never been a fan, but my roommates in college used to make these all the time.  They subbed 1/2 the water with vodka, which in my opinion was too much, but I am really sensitive to the flavor of alcohol.  I would try 1/3 vodka.  You should get those little plastic shot glasses--any liquor store should have them.  I think they work best.

Oh, I didn't realize they sell plastic shot glasses.  I should do that, or maybe have lunch at Wendy's tomorrow ...

plastic doesn't work in my experiences.  I ended up breaking the plastic and you don't want a ton of drunks breaking plastic in their mouths.  You have to go with paper.  It will slide off or peel out of there much easier.  Definetly hit up a few Wendy's.

We did the same thing.  I always preferred the variety too.  We would use the cups that are on the toliet paper/paper towel aisle that go in bathrooms in the cup holder.  Those a plastic on the inside and they slide right out.  Everyone I know always ends up using his/her finger anyway to get it out in the end bc thats easier.  Have fun!!!

I have no recipes to add, but i wanted to say this thread has me cracking up! And I wanted to share the best jello shot experience I have had - my husband has a friend that is a pharmacist & they made 800 jello shots to bring to Mardi Gras one year in syringes!! Great way to transport them, looks really bad the morning after though!!!

Also, don't use paper baking cups. I have done that & they are ENTIRELY too big. It all started because I was making those jello jiggler eggs for my niece's birthday party (easter themed) the night before. Those damn jiggler eggs made me gag all day long!

Your party sounds so fun!!!!!

I always use the condiment cups that they sell at GFS (gordon's).

They come out easy if you loosen them with you tounge, and you can buy lids so that they transport easy. I've never had them in dixie cups. You can use any liquor. I make lime/tequile (for margarita ones) rum and mixed fruit (rum punch) vodka and orange (almost a screwdriver)

yes everclear is crucial, imho. because you can't really sub. everclear or vodka for water (it'll never gel that way!), the vodka ones always turned out too weak- i would have maybe 15 of them and nada. Haha, i used to only *drink* jello shots for a couple of college years- we made them all the time. The only two times i've ever been drunk (like really drunk- being really friendly to everyone i met- thinking i was in a different town, not really seeing things at all- not recommended if you aren't around more sober friends), were from everclear jello shots and i didn't even get sick at all. so they will always hold a special place in my heart.

OMG!  This is the funniest thing I heard all day!  I can just imagine you eyeing the ketchup cups while your are ordering, planning your swipe!
