Okay, so rather than being mopey about my divorce (which I am, but let's pretend I'm not), I'm going to focus on how best to spend my first check since the alimony was entirely unexpected and thus like free money!

Rules: a) it has to be something timeless but special (so not a strand of pearls), b) it has to be something I will actually wear or use at least occasionally (so nothing too evening), and c) in the neighborhood of $800

Thoughts?

I'd head toward the bag. You can use it as much or as little as you want.  It will always fit.  Gilt.com often has beautiful fine jewelry.  And, because the price is discounted, you can get something even more awesome with your $800-ish.  biggrin.gif

I love the earrings. I like the idea of using it for a piece of jewelry. I've heard that some women will repurpose their engagement stones into some new piece of jewelry, why shouldn't you use the alimony to get yourself something sparkly?

Then, once you get the earrings, you need to gather your best girlfriend and go out somewhere special so you get to wear them.

Earrings all the way. It is sort of symbolic to me, there's a sense of independence that happens when a woman buys herself jewelry.
