how would i sell magazines ??
Permalink Closed

i have lots of old mags, and i didn't realize that people actually wanted them..

i would like to sell them on ebay, but how?

i'd rather not list every one individually...

do i sell a few at a time? or do i somehow have a person request a specific mag and see if i have it or not?

i can't figure this out.

what do you think? start bidding at what price? 1.00?  or .01?

i'm trying to get rid of stuff, and why not make a buck in the meantime?

I recently sold a bunch of Lucky mags from 2001 and 2002 for like $20! I think unless you have a magazine that seems like it would be in high demand (like one with a super popular star on the cover or one which had a spread or article that got a lot of publicity) it is better and easier to group them in lots of 6 or 12 or however many you have from a given year. You can search completed auctions to get a sense of pricing.
I think I started it at around $5 and a similar lot of Lucky mags had gone for a little under $20 the week before so I also set a BIN of $20 and it sold within 24 hours.

wow!  i had no idea about this either.  i get Harper's Bazaar and Vogue each year and throw away Jan- May in Dec. and June-Dec. in May.  Maybe I should hawk them on ebay and see waht happens!

I don't know how well all magazines sell but you can check out completed auctions to find out. Older Lucky mags were definitely in demand,

I know I'm late on this but I just saw it - I sold lots of old W mags from 1992 for nearly $100 - I couldn't believe it. I just put like 4 in a lot & took a picture of the cover. Then I listed the issue individually & highlighted some of the articles /features listed on the covers. I can't believe the crap people will buy off ebay.

Just for the record, I had bought a box of these at a garage sale for a buck - my thought was to use them for decoupage materials - i am always looking for cool fashion pictures for that reason. But when I saw what people were paying for them, i sold every single one of them. ($20+ for a lot of 4). I was so curious that I asked 2 of the people why they wanted them. One girl said she collected pixs of older supermodels, she also sold collages of these models on ebay & I saw that another one marketed them differently & made a profit from what I sold him. Whatever dude.

I think your listing looks good, I'm anxious to see what will happen

ETA: also, I put some of the models included in the mag on my listing - some people apparently search them that way. Maybe it's different with these since they aren't "old" but it may spur some traffic. HTH

Hey tara - I totally forgot about this topic. Wait, that isn't your listing is it? It says the seller is in Brooklyn. That seems like a complicated way to sell magazines unless you have tons and it would be difficult to list them all, even in lots. I think just grouping a bunch together by year is easier. Sometimes people don't have a particular issue in mind - they just want a bunch of old issues. And as laken said you can always list who is on the cover in case people are searching by celeb names.

it isn't my listing.  i was just trying to see if you girls thought i should do it that way.  i think i'm going to sell in lots of 4.  i just think shipping would be outrageous selling 12... thoughts?

I think lots of 4 sounds good. For my lot of 12 since it was so heavy I just shipped it Media Mail. I guess even though the bidder will be paying you for the shipping people might get turned off if the shipping charges are really high so I think either selling small lots or using Media Mail is a good idea.

As far as shipping - USPS has 2 new Priority Mail flat rate boxes for $7.70 - i think it's up to 70 lbs as long as you can fit the stuff in them. One of them is long & flat - i think it would fit 12 mags. HTH
