How do I do this? I don't want a stain because i don't want all of the wood to show, can I use regular latex paint? What finish should I use? I don't want it to be semi-glossy- flat or eggshell? How do I prep it?

we are doing a dresser this weekend.

first sand it to rough it up -- you don't have to remove all the stain or anything, just enough for primer or paint to stick.

first prime it, then paint it.

depending on how nice a job you want, you can spray it (not as nice) or handpaint it. just use the finish or paint you want semi- high- eggshell or flat.

they will help you pick the right materials at the hardware store as well.
