NY Hotel/Restaurant Reviews
Permalink Closed

I had a minute, so I thought I would give a quick review of the hotel we stayed at in NY this weekend in case anyone needs a recommendation in the future....

We stayed at the Roger Williams (www.hotelrogerwilliams) at 31st and Madison, in the Flatiron/Murray Hill-ish area.  I am SUPER picky about hotels (cleanliness, wear and tear, etc...) and the RW, as we took to calling it, was great.  We picked it because it has been recently renovated and we stayed in a deluxe room for the regular room rate - $300 (my husband called the hotel directly and easily got the reservationist to upgrade us).  The room and bath were spotless, and it was very quiet - couldn't hear people in the halls or in the neighboring rooms.

There is a really nice continental breakfast on the mezzanine level, and it was relatively inexpensive ($12) for the amount of food and amazing cappuchino the server made me each morning.  There is also a very cute cafe next door for breakfast.

It is close to two of the restaurants we went to - Tabla and Artisan (which were wonderful), the subway, and for my husband, the subway to Yankee stadium (I endured a game, he endured shopping!).

The other restaurant we went to was Gusto in the West Village, and it was great - very stylish, yummy italian food, lots of great people watching.

A VERY picky friend of mine went to NY the weekend before I did and stayed at the Hotel on Rivington, and he loved it.  It's very new and he said it was a great place to stay and be close to all the downtown things he wanted to do, without paying the Mercer prices (where he usually stays).  He said his room was $250 because they are doing a "soft opening" until the end of the year.  We may stay there when we go back in December.

I hope this helps!

I have to second that hotel recc.  I have stayed at Roger Williams twice.  One time - about 4 years ago - I called down for room service to get a glass of wine.  They didn't offer room service, but soon after that someone appeared at our door with a bottle of wine from the liquor store across the street... compliments of the hotel.  Unbelievable.  They often have excellent rates, too - sometimes better on their web site than what I find on quikbook.

I just stayed at Park South (for like the millionth time) on E 28th the other weekend and continue to enjoy that hotel as well, thoguh more for the value than the service.  Great rooms (small but nice), good breakfast, and a coupon for a free drink at the bar.
