Girls w/Artificial Nails
Permalink Closed

I think a few of you on here have artificial nails?  If so, do you get a new set put on every so often?  Mine start to look pretty crappy after a few mos - and I try to get the old ones taken off and a new set put on.  Just wondering if anyone else does this?  And also - if you do, do you remove the nails yourself before you go in or do you have the nail salon soak them off for you?

I dont have nails now.. but I did for many years.

I would get a new set put on about every 3-4 months to keep them from looking crusty.

Also I would let my salon take off the old. I really didnt have time to do so.. and at my nail place they soak you for a little and then use a nail tool and just pop them off. It never hurt a bit and I didnt have to hang out there for hours waiting for them to soak off.

I used to have the artificial nails, and I liked to have them taken off every few months or so, and I wouldn't get a new set for at least a month or so, to let my nails breathe.  Plus I really hated when they grind your nails down.  Yuck!

Unfortunately, my nail salon makes me sit and soak them completely off   I've tried taking them off myself and ouch - it hurts!

What we do at our salon is use acetone polish remover and get 2 bowls:1 to put the acetone in and another one,a shallower one to put hot water in.Put the acetone bowl in the hot water to heat it up a bit and place your nail tips in to soak. Place a towel over it to keep the heat in,and let it soakfor about 10 minutes. The acetone eats the acrylic and you should be able to pop them off easier, and you can do it at home.If they still wont budge, keep doing it for 10 minutes at a time.If the water cools down, replace it,and use fresh hot water for the other hand. HTH!!!

this is exactly what they do to me when I go to the nail salon and ask them to take them off, and I hate it because it seems like it takes forever.  but maybe next time i'll try it at home before popping them off.  Today I just used a metal nail file and popped mine off and went and got a new set today .

Here's a little story about nails...

When I was about 11 my mother took me and my friend to Wal-Mart.  With my allowance my friend urged me to spend my money on fake nails.  Something I would never do since I always had been able to grow mine out naturally and keep them neat even at 11.  Well, we got home and were painting them with nail polish before putting them on!  I leave the room and mine are all fugged up!  I knew something was up.  My little friend screwed her paint job and was using nail polish remover on acylic nails!  So of course the acetone ate at the acrylic and she switched hers with mine!  What a friend, and like I wouldn't notice that they were messed up or mine somehow spontaneously started melting!

I don't have press on nails though - I was talking about nails you go and get put on at a nail salon.

I have nails and don't get a new set put on very often. Quite frankly, I can't afford to pay for the full set every few months! My nail tech takes mine off when they start to look yellow or the acrylic is so old they start to crumble. She's really great because she'll take one or two off a week until I have an all new set to save me some money!

I am trying the dashing diva virtual nails www.dashingdiva.com. This is my first take with them getting new ones tomorrow. So far so good no difference really from my silk set or the gels i have had in the past.
