cheaper text books?...Follow up question

This probably belongs in career and education, but I thought more people would see it here (Sorry dc and detroit... feel free to move it)

I was just on my school's website looking up the prices of my books since classes start next Monday (we have trimesters) and I was thinking... besides ebay, is there a cheaper source for buying text books? I tried amazon.com, and my school's prices are cheaper than them. I know I could buy my books used, but it seems that everyone already snagged them.

Just wondering... I'm hoping I can save a few bucks (but I'm not very hopeful

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions, girls! I found a couple of my book for half off (!!!) my school's price on half.com and I'm wondering about media mail. I always heard that it takes a LONG time to get your package when it's shipped via media mail, and I'm a bit concerned that I won't get my books in time for my first class. Can anyone confirm or deny??

I always buy through half.com, though they're ebay's sister company so I don't know if you've tried that.  My school uses ecampus.com but they are pretty expensive.

Stephanie, try http://www.allbookstores.com/ for a comparison of vendors.  Very simple to use & they'll give you a breakdown of prices along w/time-tables of expected shipping.

i always go to amazon a search the title and they usually give you options to buy used books from private sellers throught them.  i have found a lot of books way cheaper than the school bookstore this way.

Yes, you're right to think that often, things that get sent via media mail take forever to arrive. Also, it's very common for them to open up the packages and check what's inside. To find out more about media mail, just search for "media mail" here on ST and you'll see that some of the girls have talked about it in the past.

HTH!
