Tivo Question
Permalink Closed

I'm really confused about my Tivo box.  I have a 40 hour DVR from Tivo and I have Comcast Digital cable.  I am unable to record one channel and watch another at the same time.  So if I record the OC, I have to watch the OC.  After talking to friends, I seem to the be the only one w/this problem.  I also can't record two things on two different channels that are on at the same time.  I know some people can.  Do I need a different DVR or cable provider? Or I think I read in my instruction manual that I can buy a splitter to be able to have this feature?

Anyone know what's up w/my Tivo dvr? I almost feel like it's pointless.

There is a different / more expensive tivo that you can record one & watch one. I think you can also do it if you have direct tv maybe?

ETA: talked to my geeky husband who said you can do it with satelitte, they have a dual box (???) or 2 tivos. damn it.

Oh, and anytime you think they tivo is pointless, go back to not pausing or rewinding. it always makes me appreciate my tivo LOL

You have to set it up w/ two lines to watch a different program (which you can record as well).  You can do that with any dvr, I think.  We have the 40 hour one and we could set it up either way, but it was too much of a pain to do the splitter.  We just watch one show in the other room if there are two we want to watch at the same time.

LOL - this is so funny because my BF and I do the same thing - record one and go in the bedroom to watch the other.  I'm so glad it's not just me w/this problem.  I read in the Tivo manual that you could set it up w/a splitter and I thought the same thing cricket - that it was too big of a pain.

laken1 - you have a good point.  I couldn't go back to regular tv and not being able to pause, rewind, and fast forward commercials!
