One thing you will never buy again?

Have you ever bought something before and the quality or for some other reason you will never purchase it again?

This summer I bought a J Crew pique polo.  I thought it was fabulous and would last a long time.  The first time I washed it, it shrank in length, now it's a cropped polo!  It's too annoying to even wear under sweaters.  Never again will I buy one of their polos unless they are super long.  They should either prewash the fabric or include shrinkage in the cut.  This has never happened to any other polos I have purchased for much cheaper elsewhere!

Hmmm...this is a good one...and a potentially endless list:

  • Anne Klein pumps...they fell apart after two wearings

  • Pants from Delias...they shrank in width and length in a cold water washing!

  • jewelry from alltherageonline.com my earrings were mismatched and one was broken

I'll keep thinking...

There is not a specific item I can think of, but there are stores I won't buy from anymore.  This season, I have about half as much as usual to spend on clothing, and I want to get more bang for my buck so to say.  I realized that most of the items I have worn several years in a row and get the most wear out of are from J Crew, BCBG, and Banana Republic.  I am going to try to focus on shopping in those places this season with a few cute things from Anthropologie (although sometimes with Anthropologie I have the tendency to love something, wear it a few times, then start to feel like it is kind of weird-kind of like I am with guys).  So, some stores I have completely taken off of my list (as in will not even allow myself to walk into them) due to losing interest in their clothes fast and losing their shape in the wash or dry cleaners are:

  • Express

  • Limited

  • Arden B

  • Any outlet

  • Teeny-bopper stores (but these have been off the list for a long time)

Mine are more store oriented too..

All Teeny booper stores.. nothing fits me right and I find that the majority is not well-made.

Abercrombie - used to work there and it is a horrible, horrible place

not sure of the category to put this in.. stores like Fashion Bug and Dress Barn

Burlington Coat Factory - I've never found anything good in the one near me.. and it always looks like a bomb just went off in there.

Mall Jewelry stores.. what a rip-off.

Old Navy - unless its tanks, work out clothes, or flip flops.. I am unhappy with almost everything else I have bought there.

BJs/Sam's Club - I am a Costco junkie. The others dont compare in my eyes. Besides my husband runs a Costco and our retirement money depends on Costco stock!

I will keeping thinking.. I know there are hundreds more! Good poll.

-Tommy Hilfiger shoes.....so uncomfortable, and my feet are very tolerant to begin with

Geez, I am drawing a blank. I'll come back to this!

Pants from Old Navy, they completely lose their shape.

Teeny bopper stores (Forver 21, Wet Seal, etc), I'd just rather not bother.

I feel like when I purged my closet seriously half of the stuff in there was stuff that I shouldn't have bought in the first place.

I just want to say I'm one for the young and tawdry girl stores.

Hmmm...I try to be non-discriminatory...

  • Old Navy wifebeaters. I know you girls love them but I couldn't get over how wide the straps were and how boxy the cut was. They stretched so much for me that I wanted to size down in a XS. I have 34Ds...there's just no reason for me to be an XS ANYWHERE...that's like reverse size dicrimination! I refuse to endorse it.

  • Bebe: Ridiculously overpriced and too revealing for me, for the most part. Haven't bought anything from there since summer 2003.

Anything from Arden B! I hate that store.

I usually will shop just about anywhere, provided I can find something I like. I do however, find both ArdenB and Bebe to be ridiculously overpriced and most of the clothes at Old Navy to be ill fitting.  I have fun at the teeny boppy stores--Charlotte Russe is my favorite, then Forever21, then Wet Seal.  I don't consider Rampage to be teeny bopper b/c the quality is better and price points are significantly higher.

ETA: I despise Payless.  It never fails that every season I buy shoes there and I end up loathing them after the first wear b/c they have a vendetta against my feet.  I have one pair of Payless shoes that I love and have had for about 5 years and wear pretty frequently. Other than that, I hate Payless.

*Old navy jeans. I had a pair in high school and looking back they were terrible. Then I bought another pair a few years ago... I was at the beach in South Carolina. I was expecting it to be warm so I only brought shorts and short skirts. Well, it was freezing and I went to Old Navy and bought a pair of jeans because they were cheap and warm. The are just so boxy, the denim is thick and the tend to be frumpy... but what do you expect from jeans that cost $22.

*J. Crew rubber flipflops. I had 2 pairs in college. One was the plain flat style and the strap just broke on my way to class. Because I was late, I just went barefoot. The other was the platform style and everytime I wore them, I got blisters.

*Bras from Target or other cheap places. I get distracted by the pretty fabrics and prints. Later on, I always discover they are uncomfortable, itchy, or the wire poke out.

cheap jewelry from express (it's not that inexpensive for cheap jewelry)

anything patterned from Gap, Banana, and like stores.  everytime i see someone wearing a patterned shirt from a severly mass produced store, i can quote the price, where they got it, etc...plus i feel like every other girl is thinking the same thing, or has that shirt.  it's a weird complex.

Gap basic tees at regular price.  if i would just plan better, i would not buy a simple tee from Gap for $20!!

bras from vickie's.  i don't like the quality and i feel like i can get better quality for cheaper at marshall's and TJ Maxx.

ditto to both of these

I never buy uncomfortable shoes anymore.  If they are uncomfortable to try on, they are going to be hell to wear for an entire day.  I still have a ton of cute shoes.  I think it is easy to find hot, yet comfy, shoes.  Usually, I think the comfort is related to leather quality and you get what you pay for.

There are a ton of stores I don't shop in.  I buy almost everything at Anthro, J.Crew, Nordstrom, my favorite boutique, a vintage store, or online.  Mostly it is because I don't like to spend a lot of time shopping brick and mortar, so I don't want to waste my time in a store that probably won't have anything I'd wear.  I can, however, waste hours upon hours browsing online.

I refuse to shop at Bebe because I always feel like a cow whenever I go in there.  The SA's are pretty snooty and their sizing makes me feel like I'm abnormally large, which I'm not.

I also refuse to shop at Abercrombie.  Last time I was there I was not given the time of day, and I hate how loud they blare their music (geez, I sound like an old fart), plus I feel like none of their clothes are very original.

Other items I won't buy--most stuff from Old Navy.  I don't know why, but they just don't do it for me.

Also, for here on out, I refuse to buy a bolero/shrug thing.  I have a bolero from Target, which I loved earlier this year, but I'm coming to realize they just don't flatter me at all.  I also won't buy shorts because I hate the way my legs look in them.  There are other items, I'm sure, but I can't think of them right now.

ditto to that.  I try not to wear anything obviously from one of those stores- i don't know why!  I guess i don't really like people thinking, oh shirts from gap, pants are from br, purse is from blah blah... its weird i know.  I do like these stores for basics or things with s slight edge.

any teeny-bopper store, forever 21, H & M, cheaper priced store without a PURPOSE before going in.  otherwise, all hell breaks loose and i buy things i don't really care about.  For example, if i'm like, oh i need a cheapo black going out top, i'll stop in any store.  but i won't shop recklessly in these stores, and i've bought maybe 3 pieces from said stores in the past 5 months.

Old navy, except for the wife beaters or something super cheap ($2 tubetop which i've only worn once, but oh well, its only $2 and i'm sure i'll wear it again next summer)

haven't seriously looked inside a Limited or Express for a couple of years, though I might soon and try to find some dress pants

acrylic sweaters or tops that aren't natural fibers unless they are SUPER cute

cheaper jewelry- nowadays i just dont buy anything or save and buy something bigger in the $100-200 range, or look for vintage on eBay

printed tees- i just don't need them really, i only have a few I REALLY like

shoes unless i'm in love with them and think i *NEED* them

no payless

things with contrast stitching (bags, shoes), i dont like it for some reason

tops for going out that are over $80 unless i know they'll last forever and won't get wrecked too easily ($80 is a fab top- i try to keep my going out tops at $15 or under- which may help explain why my night time look is seriously lacking)

Bebe, Arden B unless I see something i like from there in a magazine, then i zero in on it

Target, unless i know what i need, otherwise, i'd go crazy

pants that don't fit PERFECTLY, i just don't need them in my life anymore

flared jeans- i have sooo many and not really any straight leg or tight jeans, need to work on this wardrobe gap

Abercrombie/AE- reminds me too much of my high school years, but i will shop at Abercrombie for select items (jeans, denim skirts, some pants if they dont have that moose on them)

earrings that aren't gold posts- allergic

shrugs- i don't need anymore and barely wear the ones i have

Old Navy jeans. They're just weird, they twist and stretch and shrink all funny. Also Old Navy Ts or tanks.

Payless. This store gives me hives, i haven't been in years but I tried to go in to try on those wedge loafer things everybody went crazy for and I just couldn't do it. It just weirded me out. I think it's the smell- the combo of plastic and sweaty feet

Acrylic or cheap cotton sweaters. Just say no to saggy elbows.

I would never buy a T that says "American Eagle" or "Old Navy" or anything like that.

Sorry to hijack the thread/be nosy, but may I ask what your favorite boutique and vintage store are?

-Lacoste polos. They hold up well, but they don't fit me correctly...very boxy.

-American Eagle shirts...they shrink & the color fades.

-Express's blended sweaters (cashmere/silk blend). I have 2 or 3 of them, and they pilled within like 30 seconds of wearing.

-pants from The Limited. The left hem always falls out. I had like 5 pairs and it happened to every one.

Ditto to shopgirl82's comment regarding pattern shirts from mass retailers.  I remember this passed summer the shirt from BR that had a white background and an orange/red/pink leaf/floral pattern. I loved it, but it was identifiable as BR that I was turned off. I saw a girl wearing it at the beach and I my first thought was, 'oh she got that at BR.'

And ditto to halleybird regarding Express blend sweaters. I have a few, too and after a few wears they were all nasty and pilly and they are too expensive to only wear a few times.
