what is a good place to buy fabric to use to put on the seat of a chair.  I want it to be robins egg blue/white stripes, about 3 inches wide, very simple.  I can't find simply chic fabrics anywhere I look!!  Where should I start?

do you have a "boutique" fabric store around? i usually avoid the jo-ann's and hancock type stores and go for a specialty place where they carry better lines and more unique stuff. they also usually have huge resources for special orders (although there is usually a minimum # of yards you have to purchase)

or are you looking for an online retailer? i usually avoid those too. i like to be able to actually touch and feel the fabrics before buying them. cut fabrics are usually not returnable so it seems extra scary to buy them online.

or if you're in royal oak, mi (fat chance, eh?) haberman's is the place i go! www.habermanfabrics.com (i think they have SOME stuff online)

There's a store around here called Fabric Place (www.fabricplace.com) that sells more fabric and decorative stuff than I knew existed!  They have some stuff online that you could browse through.

You could go to regular stores and seek out curtains, shower curtains, etc. in the fabric you seek.  As long as it's sturdy enough, the seats can be covered in pretty much anything!

Oh, and I think Ballard Designs offers swatches for you to see (www.ballarddesigns.com).
