Does anyone here suffer from anxiety or panic attacks?  I've been having a lot of anxiety since I had the baby, not for any reason in particular, I think it is more of a hormonal/postpartum issue.. just wondering how you all deal with it.

hi karina.  sorry about your anxiety.  i have had 2 ex boyfriends ( is it me??!!) who have been treated for anxiety; both were prescribed xanax.  one of them had severe panic attacks and would take some kind of medication at the time he was feeling like one may occur.

there was also a excersize called "progressive relaxation" ( i will check on in one of my psych books about when i get home tonight) that he was told to do.

it's a series of contracting muscles in your body in some order to help you feel more relaxed.

hopefully it is your hormones after having a baby, so things will get back to normal.  i will check tonight for you.

i do, i have horrible anxiety problems. if you feel a panic attack coming on just stop whatever you're doing & sit down & just breathe. alot of times i'll just close my eyes & breathe and it kind of goes away. if you're already having a panic attack i just work on stopping everything & getting my mind cleared as quickly as possible to prevent hyperventilating and passing out. it usually works.

I used to get panic attacks when I got really upset.  I did the same as dixiegirl - I would just try to sit down and breathe until it went away.  Luckily, I had my bf there everytime one hit and he was able to talk me down as well.  I haven't had one in a while now.

My BF has pretty bad anxiety and he was prescribed Zoloft.

I have anxiety issues and very much agree with the others. If you feel one coming on, make sure you sit down...even if the only place nearby is the floor. If you pass out, you don't want to be standing. I don't know what your symptoms are, but they can be very scary, just try to control your breathing as much as possible. I'm reluctantly taking medication now for anxiety. Please PM me if you have other questions or want more details.

I have generalized anxiety and OCD. I spent two years on Zoloft... it helped, but I couldn't deal with the side effects. Now I do more behavioral stuff. Breathing deeply and sitting down in a quiet place helps me the most, especially when I feel the panic coming on.

I do this when I have trouble falling asleep -- it works!
