I am such a nerd about this show... my husband & I started watching the reruns this summer & we're totally hooked. Anyone else? What do you think is in the hatch? Where did Walt go? Any thoughts?

Oh, gosh, those are the two questions I want answered!!! I have no idea what might be in the hatch. On the preview for the season premiere, it shows Kate going down the hatch and saying something like "There's something down here" and screaming, but that may just be an advertising trick to get us to watch too. So, I have no idea.
The people that took Walt scared the crap out of me. Where did they come from and why did they just want Walt? That was weird. What happens to the other guys on the raft? The raft is destroyed now, so I have no idea how they can get back.
I have no idea what to expect out of this season. I can't wait to see some more back stories though, especially Locke's. I want to know why he was in the wheelchair when the plane crashed, especially because only like a year or two earlier he was perfectly healthy and had given a kidney to his dad (which was one of the most f*ed up episodes ever!!!) Also, from what I've heard, Michelle Rodriguez will now be on the show. She's the one who met Jack in the Sydney airport, and apparently she's supposed to be a regular on the show now, so that must mean that there are other people from the flight alive somewhere.
I am not just a Lost nerd, I am The Lost Nerd. Check out www.oceanicflight815.com and www.oceanic-air.com. If you notice they are showing the first website in previews now, but I've been logging on since the end of the first season. Here's what has been confirmed:
There are other survivors from the tail section of the plane and yes, Michelle Rodriguez is now a regular cast member. I believe that Rose's husband Bernard (who was in the bathroom in the tail section when the plane split) will also be among the tail section survivors.
The writers have taken much inspiration from Stephen King and have said that there is an explanation for everything that has happened. They've also ruled out aliens, purgatory and the two plane theory. *begin NylaBelle's theory*: I believe that they are setting up for a division between the survivors: good vs. evil, faith vs. science, those who believe that everything happens for a reason and those who don't. Take a look at the previews where they show just one Lostee and the Lostee's thoughts, most of them center around the idea of 'everything happens for a reason' and whether they believe that or not. I think that there are alot of parallels between Lost and The Stand (good vs. evil, the ultimate battle). Jack and Locke are clearly being defined as the two front runners for the different groups. I think there was some great forshadowing in the seaon finale when Jack said to Kate, "If we survive, we're going to have a serious Locke problem."
The Others were the people on the boat who took Walt. For whatever reason, they are very interested in children/youth. They took Rousseau's baby, the took Claire in an attempt to get her baby and now they've taken Walt.
As for the hatch, there haven't really been too many clues about that. In the previews it showed Kate going down the ladder and the light in the hatch coming on (which we've seen one other time when Locke first found the hatch and asked, "What do you want from me?" and the light popped on). We are definitely supposed to find out what's in the hatch fairly early on in the new season.
Hurley's numbers are really, really important, but we still don't know why.
Okay, that's all I can think of right now, but definitely check those sites I listed above. They are legit and from ABC.
Oh, and aren't we all excited that Lost won a few Emmy's, especially for Best Drama?! As if there was ever any doubt. I love this show. I can't wait for the two hour premier!
Okay, Nyla, when you said that the others were the ones that took Walt, I seriously got the chills! Creepy! I hadn't thought about that at all, but it makes sense! I'm definitely going to check out those sites now.

Be careful, they're almost as addicting as ST! I've spent hours on there. Oh, if you're at work and you get to the map of the plane, turn your volume off on your computer!!

Did anyone else notice that in one of the previews there was a shot of the hatch (after it was blown open) and it said "Quarantine"? I only saw it once and then I don't remember seeing anything else about it. Either way, it doesn't sound like anything good is going to come out of the hatch.

Yes, I did notice that! I forgot about it until you just mentioned it. I definitely agree that there isn't anything good in that thing. I remember in one of the episodes, Sayid said something, in reference to the fact that the hatch didn't have a latch on the outside and that, in fact, there wasn't a method to open it on the outside b/c it was keeping something inside and it was never meant to be opened. More and more this is all starting to resemble The Stand.
I was going with a purgatory sort of theory most of last year, now I don't know.
I got my mom hooked on it this summer, as well as more of myself because I didn't have time to watch the fall episodes last year...She thinks it must be inspired by a sci fi movie (or show, or book?) from like 30 years ago called Forbidden Planet (I think). I have yet to look this up, but does anyone else know of this show and see a familiarity?

The writers have said that the purgatory theory is not correct. Also, I don't believe that they have confirmed taking inspiration from anything other than Stephen King. Sorry, I'm such a freak. I'm obsessed with this show. I'm not familar with Forbidden Planet, but if it has to do with aliens, they writers have also said that this is not the case either. HTH!
Hmmm, it looks like their premiere is Weds @ 8, but the next week it's Weds @ 9. I guess their just starting their first one @8 because it's 2 hrs long?

The Lost Nerd is here to clarify!!! The regular time slot is Wednesday's at 9pm. The premier this week begins at 8pm with an hour long Season 1 recap. They'll probably show all the important stuff from the first season...the numbers, the hatch, Ana Lucia, the black rock, the others, Ethan Rom (other man), Boone's death, etc. And the official start of Season 2 begins at 9pm. They moved Lost from 8pm to 9pm on Wednesday b/c the ABC's execs want to get people to watch their new show, 'Invasion' that premiers on Wednesday at 10pm.
I'm a dork. halleybird, I'm usually a plethora of info on this show. I'm happy to fill you in!
I agree that the survivors will divide between faith (Locke) and science (Jack). I don't want to label either as good or evil at this point though. I suspect that Locke will try to convince his followers that they are on the island for a reason and therefore they don't need to try and get off the island. I think that will be one of the main components of the "Locke Problem." The other being that Locke has seen the "monster" for lack of a better term and seems to get along with it.
I think that there is more than one set of "others". They found a several hundred year old slaver ship. I think people have been getting shipwrecked/stranded on the island for a very long time. My question is whether the hatch was left there by one of the groups of others or whether whoever/whatever created the island put it there. I can't remember if Hurley's #s are on the hatch.
Part of me also suspects that Walt is somehow causing the whole thing and that's why the others wanted him so badly. I noticed that a lot of stuff he thinks about seems to just happen. Maybe they think he can get them off the island?
