You know when it gets so cold, like -10, and it's painful to be outside? I was thinking it would be nice to have a coat that would get me through those days a little easier - something I can wear to work, but if my car gets stuck in the snow, I'd be able to get out of the car without wrecking my coat... Anyway - I saw these... No, they're not the most fashionable coats, but if you live with similar winter weather, you'll know where I'm coming from... Let me know what you think...
All of these are down filled
#1 Via Spiga removable fur trimmed collar
#2 Via Spiga (this is the most refined, but the down looks light)
#3 Cole Haan (this one looks like it has really good down filling - but does it look too matronly?)
I'm mostly leaning toward #1 or #2 because they look like they'd keep me warmest. Please feel free to share your thoughts...

I would get #2 or #3, whichever would fit best and seems warmest. Based on warmth I'm thinking #3 might be better especially since it has a full collar which you can flip up to add extra warmth in addition to your scarf. I have a winter coat with a collar like #2's and it sort of annoys me.
I would get the olive Via Spiga. My mom's down coat has a fur trimmed hood and it keeps her really warm (she wears a hat in addition to her hood in really cold weather). Hers is a men's coat from Nautica though, which also manages to overwhelm her so much that we call her 'eskimo'. Yours is definitley an improvement on that.
Originally from northern Vermont (10 mins away from Canadian border) I hear you about those painfully cold winter days, Detroit........I voted for #1. I think the hood is a stylish detail on that coat and will also be a useful feature on those days where your hat's just not enough!
I was looking at the same coat #1 but the shorter verison. I think the long one would make me feel like I was wearing a sleeping bag, but rather that than a freezing behind. So I haven't decided and was waiting out for coats to come out in stores to try on or for bluefly to have an additional sale on them.
My very warmest coat (that is, unfortunately too dressy for everyday use) is long and has the fur collar. The "long" keeps my entire body toasty, and the fur feels sooooo toasty on those bitter cold days. I think #1 is great, and even better if you can remove the collar on days when the snow is sticky wet so it won't get ruined. Does it come in other colors, too, or just olive? I'm a black or white coat gal (though the long white would bet pretty gross).
