I'm a northeasterner, so I say soda. For those of you that say "coke", what do you do if you really do want a Coke? How do you specify that you want the BRAND Coke? Do you say, "I'd like a Coke, coke."? I just imagine a scene where you ask for a coke and the waitress asks "what kind?" Then you say "coke" and the waitress says "yes, coke, but what kind of coke?" After typing "coke" so much, it looks weird to me.
I don't know about everyone else, but when I order, I say the specific name (ex. I'll have a coke, or I'll have a sprite). Its just when you talk about carbonated beverages that you say coke (ex. How many glasses of coke did you have at dinner? could refer to sprite, orange soda. OR I wasn't too hungry so I just ordered a coke)

Well I only drink Diet Coke, so that is all there is to me. But when I ask my fiance if he wants something I say drink, or refreshing bevarage to be a dork! So I guess I am the other! Oooohhhh! I say "beverage" too. "I am in need of a beverage" That can be anything, iced tea, water, or ,yes, to answer the poll, POP.
does anyone recall that after the movie Pulp Fiction finally caught on in around 1995 that people starting calling everything a "beverage?" I believe it was Samuel L. Jackson's character who spoke so cool.

I will say all of them but Coke is strictly for Coca Cola.
My BF says that down south they will ask you if you would like a Coke. Then ask what kind? I thought this was so hiliarious (especially since he was faking the accent)!
I grew up in the south, but my parents are from NY. I've always referred to it as soda. But once when I was in 3rd grade, my friends made fun of me for calling it soda, because they called it coke. So on field day I went to buy a soda, wanting a dr. pepper, but to fit in, I called it a coke. Guess what? They gave me a coke! From then on soda remained in my vocabulary and was not replaced by coke!

I call everything coke. I was raised in Southeast Arkanasas and now live in Louisiana and it's been pretty much the same in both places.
FashionPrincess-That's funny that your experiences are different in AR than mine are! I've never heard anyone call it anything other that "coke" for everything. Maybe it's a difference between North and South Arkansas?
I'm from the midwest too, and I'm a soda girl. It almost makes me cringe when someone says pop. The area in which I live though, it varies from town to town. You could travel 20 miles and be surrounded by pop.

I ALWAYS wondered this too...I say soda (from St. Louis). But now I live in Kansas City, and they say soda and pop, but I hear more pop. Oh but they also say "sack" for "bag" and "69 Highway" for "Highway 69," which completely baffles me... Sorry if anyone on here's from KC, but it drives me nuts!
