Which are you?  I'm a soda girl myself.  Most Cali girls are, I think.

This is so funny - i'm from the midwest, so everyone here pretty much says pop, however, when i went to visit friends in cali a couple years ago, i noticed everyone said soda and thought i was odd for saying pop.  They made fun of me!  I also dated a guy, from the midwest mind you, who said soda...now I kind of fluctuate between pop and soda.  I voted pop though because it's my true nature to say that!

I'm a pop girl, as most midwesterners are

If nobody has every seen this before, this is pretty cool and shows the country-wide difference in what we call it.

That map is hilarious.  I never really thought about anyone doing an experiment on it, or really giving a sh$t about it.  Too funny.

How funny but that is right on. Growing up, i called all soft drinks "coke" but then you would specify what kind. I'm from the tampa bay area (florida) and it specifies that that region calls it coke.

Yeah, me too! Everything's a coke and then you specify which drink you want. For instance at a sandwich shop or something my mom might ask me, "my darling daughter, do you want a coke?" I'd say, "yeah, do they have diet dr. pepper? if not diet coke."

And in high school we'd make "coke runs" to the coke machine and ask everyone, "y'all want a coke?" if anyone said yes the next statement would be: "what kind?"

I love being from Texas sometimes.

Okay, I'm from Michigan but for some reason always called it coke. Then, after years of waitresses always saying "We only have Pepsi." I changed it to pop so people understand I'm not trying to get a coca-cola but any brown caffinated drink. I'm mad though, I like coke better than pop.

Ditto - I think the "coke" thing is pretty much consistent through the south.

That map is, well, sad!! I can't believe that someone took the time to do that. But what in the heck is "OTHER"? What else would you call it?

I've lived in VT, NY, and MA -- and we always say soda!

That being said, I hate the beverage that all 3 words refer to. :)

to me it's soda but if we're at a restaurant and I don't know if it's Coke or Pepsi available I just tell the waitperson that I want anything dark and diet.

Soda, but I'm from Ohio where everyone calls it pop, as did I until my teen years when I started calling it soda.

Oh, and I now live in Arkansas and am not sure where they got there research for that map cause in the 8 years I've lived here I've never heard anyone call it "coke" unless they literally meant coke???  (And I'm in the top left county where it says 80%+ call it coke)

I live in San Antonio, TX and my whole life I had always heard of SODA! You go to a restaurant and say sprite, coke, pepsi. I think its easier that way. Why would you want to say coke then sprite?
