No seriously - what do I do for a costume? I just got my first party invite and I have too much on my plate. My BFF is getting married 10/15, the bachelorette party is 10/8, and not only do I not have time for all that jazz but I will be (by that time) seriously lacking in funds.

Anyone done anything cute that is fairly simple that one can pull together from one's own closet? With everything going on, this is one thing I'm certain I don't need to worry about. Hmmm... and yet it's the only thing I can think about. I'm awesome.

  • Wear head-to-toe of all one color.  Go to a party store and buy a pointy party hat in the same color. Voila! You're a crayon!

  • For a cheaper version of the BullSh&t costume, wear head-to-toe brown and buy horns and you're bullsh$t

I usually end up pulling crap from my closet and making something up.  I'll probably do it again this year.

You could get a mullet wig and go as a redneck or Joe Dirt.  A redneck outfit should be easy to put together at Goodwill.

http://www.ratemymullet.com/?page=merchandise

mullet wigs: the class of 1987 Mullet Wig - The Class of 1987 - $ 19.99
Its the Original Mullet Wig! Get out your yearbooks, does this guy look familiar? The Class of 1987 Mullet Wig (a.k.a. The Nebraska Neck Warmer) is dirty blonde in color, matted on top & sides and permed in the back. This guy was voted "Most Likely To Not Succeed" Fully Adjustable! (Mullet Wig - The Class of 1987 a.k.a. The Nebraska Neck Warmer Mullet Wig) Limited supply on hand.

mullet wig: the trash mullet Mullet Wig - The Landscaper - $ 19.99
Its the Original Mullet Wig! The Trash Mullet Wig (a.k.a. Kentucky Waterfall or the Wisconsin Waterfall) mimics that of the traditional mullet style in every sense of the word. The Trash Mullet is generally matted on top, sides tapered and the back straight and long. Hence the term Short, Short, Long. Fully Adjustable! (Mullet Wig - The Landscaper a.k.a. Kentucky Waterfall or the Wisconsin Waterfall Mullet Wig)

mullet wig: the landscaper mullet Mullet Wig - The Trash - $ 19.99
Its the Original Mullet Wig! The Landscaper Mullet Wig (a.k.a. The Ape Drape) is generally darker, thicker, and out of control in the back. This style conforms to the Mullet criteria which is short on the top and sides, long and wavy in the back. Hence the term "Business in the front, party in the back." Fully Adjustable! (Mullet Wig - The Trash)

mullet wig: the female mullet Mullet Wig - The Female Mullet - $ 19.99
Its the Original Mullet Wig! ATTENTION K-MART SHOPPERS! The Female Mullet Wig (a.k.a. The Bingo) is spiked on the top tapered in on the sides with points and poker straight in the back. You'll be a real winner in this style. B-15!! O-65!! BINGO!! Fully Adjustable! (Mullet Wig - The Female Mullet a.k.a. The Bingo Mullet Wig)

mullet wigs are a great gift to give to any mullet fan, or buy one for youself. If you have ever wondered what you would look like with a mullet, but had the common sense not to grow one, mullet wigs are for you!

Two years ago me and a bunch of my girlfriends went as Mobster/gangster girls. It was cute and it was a cheap costume.  We all wore black or white button down shirts (who doesn't have that in their closet?) black/white pinstripe skirts (had one, but if you don't, you can find a cheap enough one), white ties (bought a cheap one), black fishnets, black knee high boots, and a gangster hat (you can find these at any costume/halloween store and they're like $5).  It was really cute and the only thing I had to spend money on was the hat and the tie.  Just an idea.

I'm going as Margot Tennebaum. Mostly for the eyeliner and cigarettes.

I was her last year! My BF was the Ben Stiller brother. Such a fun costume! Don't forget to put on your "wooden" finger!

This year, I want to be the existential detectives (Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman) from I Huckabees.

An offshoot of the crayon idea, last year, someone I knew dressed all in pink with a pink boa she found at a party store:  She was tickled pink.

Didn't someone from ST (or FH) last year wear a T-shirt with Freud on it over a slip, and she was a Freudian slip?  LOL

I know Stephanie Klein of Greek Tragedy fame did that. Are you thinking of her?

Last year my finace and I went as 80's prepster, but we went very preppy, far more than I usually am. My fiance wore pink pants and a madras plaid shirt, with a sweater tied around his neck.

The year before we went as Revenge of the Nerds, he was the head nerd and I was the cheerleader he ended up marrying.

This year I think I will be the giant turd!!!!

one of my friends and her boyfriend are going as the landlord and landlady from Kung Fu Hustle. I can't wait to see her decked out in the muu muu, the rollers and the perma-cigarette glued to the side of her mouth. The only downside is that it's a little obscure so not everyone will get it. Oh well.

I can't think of anything good either! Last year I was thinking about decking myself out in a heap of all the worst and most ubiquitous trends and being a Fashion Emergency... but no one would get it. :(

Over the summer, my friends and I all dressed up in 80s clothes to go to a skating rink because we're dumb like that.  I put a clock over my neck and VOILA!  I was Flava Flav.  Easiest costume ever.

Halloween was a very big deal in the town where I went to college.  Bought costumes are popular, but the best costumes were homemade.  Here are some costumes I have donned in the past:

Marge Simpson--I found a tall curly blue wig and made a red bead necklace and a green shift (basically just sewed green fabric together and slid it on) and wore red ballet-type slippers.

Elvira--I bought an Elvira wig and dress from a costume shop.

Three Blind Mice (with two other girls)--we wore all grey and made tails with wire in them so they would stick up, carried walking sticks, and painted whiskers on our faces.

Japanese geisha--I wore a kimono, painted my face white, wore red lipstick, and wore those black flips with the foam bottoms.

I have always wanted to go as Catwoman or Audrey Hepburn.  One of my friends once went as Punky Brewster---very cute.

I love Halloween, it is so fun!

Like these ideas, especially Marge Simpson.
