I like Tahoma and Century Gothic. Century Gothic smacks of a lovely cleanliness to me, even more so than Tahoma...I think it's because the line is so much lighter in Century Gothic and the whole feel is just more airy.
I actually wrote a whole project for Social Studies in French Script...totally drove my teacher insane, but I got creativity points for it. I still really like French Script but I don't see it in MS Office anymore.
My personal favorite is CalifornianFB, for writing papers and such. I remember taking journalism and publication design classes in which we would take a whole week to discuss fonts--serif, sans serif, etc, etc, etc. I know that in most graphic design programs there is an actual Typography class, so I'm sure I'll be subjected to it again.
ETA: As far as scripts, I love Vivaldi. It's elegant and romantic.
My personal fave is Papyrus. I just love it - so elegant. I used to use it for all my business materials, until it seemed like *everyone* was using it, so I switched to something else. But I still like that font the best.
